I hate to salt your potential sale at fair market value, but this watch could catch fire at Phillips/Christies or Sothebys who would all love to sell it for you and they could probably get a few billionaires to battle for this watch and drive up an insane price.

The price you’ll pay Sotheby’s and Christie’s is bull. I would just reach out to some of the more seasoned and veteran dealers here who may or may not charge you a sellers fee and if they do it will be no where near what these guys would charge you. I’m sure we have some people here who could GORILLA MARKeT the crap out of this thing for you.
Good Luck.

Condolences for your loss.
As for the watch, get as much $ as you possibly can. I would absolutely consider Phillips, Sotheby's, Christies, too -- you can negotiate fees on pieces like this ... and donate half the proceeds to charity in your dad's name. Take a small portion of the remainder, buy a brand new GMT, and beat the living crap out of it. Just my unsolicited two cents ;-) Incredible find. |

Here are some other pics... The condition of these is no where near as nice. Not sure what the value for a collector would even be. I thought the stop watches were cool because the were before the Tag in Tag Heuer. And the bag they were all found in :) I'm lucky I didn't put this in with the donation piles. |

Very sorry for your loss.
That is an exceptional watch. I hope you enjoy it, and be careful with who you let handle that gem. It is worth a lot as you know. I'm sure some of the dealers have already reached out to you, I hope you are careful with who you decide to deal with. Plenty of very recommended and stand up dealers on here. All the best to you. |

Nice piece!
Feel free to drop a ballpark number of what you think this retails at. Tropical, untouched with an almost perfect bakelite is six figures plus. Best of luck!

I'm hesitant to mention the offers because most of the possible buyers are on this forum and I don't want to breach any etiquette with a possible sale of the size. But they are significant. |

C Walker
You my friend have a nice lil gem. The 6542 reference is my favorite vintage Rolex by far, owning a few myself, I understand the pleasure and joy of having such a piece. A few of the veteran members noted that this is a 6 figure watch. They are indeed correct. Your example is 100% correct all the way down to the 13mm hands which we often see changed in thisnrwference. The Bakelite insert is the most valuable part in this watch. As noted above, be careful. Also, DO NOT polish the case or replace any parts. If you decide to have it serviced I would consult some of the memeber here first before considering going to your local Mom and pop shop and DO NOT send it to Rolex. Enjoy it, love it and be happy to have it. Your lucky. There are collectors that would trade a handful of their top pieces with cash on top for such a piece. Or even take out a second mortgage ;) Congratulations! And enjoy E

Deepest condolences to you and your family. May your grandfather be in peace.
For that amazing 6542, I would recommend you not to sell so soon even if a market value is being offered to you. Vintage is crazy right now and GMT maybe the next mania after Daytona. You could have the pleasure wearing it while holding out and observe the market. |

Love the watch. Love the story. If you don’t need the money, sit on it for a bit. The vintage market isn’t going anywhere but up.

What an amazing find! I'm so glad to hear that you passed on the ridiculous offers you received on such an excellent vintage GMT. And I find it somewhat unbelievable that people would try to take advantage of someone like that. Shame on them and good on you for leaving a Google review to warn others.

I bought my Patent Pending DRSD on here last year and paid 5,000 over the highest dealer offer to the family , lets make sure this Gentleman gets every penny the watch is worth should he decide to sell it My advice is ask the big dealers for offers , BTW I have no interest in buying a 6542 ,only in helping ensure the highest offer would be brought in Bills Post https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...highlight=6542 The sale details are at the end on page 3 |

Just came back to say... Please take your time selling. Maybe post pics on Instagram etc. You’ll have people falling over themselves to buy it.

There will never be a shortage of buyers for this watch. It’s in a class of its own.

@C Walker don't get too nervous about its price.
Some things don't worth selling. |
