I want it noticed because I'll know I've found a fellow WIS!!! (Either that or a hoodlum)

edit: I don't buy things for them to get noticed. Each to their own

I think the correct answer for most people here is, we DO and WANT certain people to notice but we DO NOT care if they do not. Because this hobby is for ourself to enjoy.

Generally not. I had an awkward exchange with a pot bellied middle-aged individual when looking in an AD window. He happened to notice. I'm happy for certain people to notice more than their car on my wrist though. People need some perspective sometimes. As long as they do it quietly.

I’m not sure how you jumped to that conclusion. Some don’t need or want the attention.

I do believe more people notice them than we realize, but am not looking for compliments.

Before I got into Rolex I’m not sure I would’ve been able to recognize any of them.

Mine don't seem to get noticed here or in the real world. I"ve given up. I wear them for me and the dogs.

I hate it when people notice. I think people form an opinion of you pretty quickly and for better or for worse I would hate for any of my watches to be a part of that first impression.
The only time I don't mind if it gets noticed is if I'm shopping for a luxury item.

I’ve found the only people who notice are into watches so it’s usually a pleasure for me to talk watches with others into this eccentric hobby.

Most people in my office don’t know if I wear one watch in the morning and another in the afternoon (if I happen to have one in my swim bag or something like that). Watches are just not on the radars of non WIS peeps.

I'd like a third "There's a time and place" option. Sometimes it's cool to be noticed and other times it's not. It's not black and white, but it's not complicated either. Option 3 for me.

If it is someone who knows watches then why not. I have met several i network with based on meeting over watches. If someone compliments me on my watch that is welcome as well. I actually met one of my doctors over a conversation in Neiman Marcus women’s shoe department. Both of our wives were shopping and we started talking watches while we were sitting down bored out of our minds. We have never met before that.

I don’t really care if people notice or not. Over the years I’ve learned several different ways to handle the situation when someone notices. Often time when people ask me about my watch (usually because they know it’s a hobby of mine) I’m able to deflect the conversation immediately to what they are wearing and talk about their interests in horology. It’s generally never uncomfortable because I’m very well prepared in how to respond.

I like when someone who knows watches sees it. I have had one person say “great subc” which was really cool.

I know what you mean. I believe I would've recognized a Rolex as a nice watch, but wouldn't have known for sure what it was.

I want it to be noticed if it's my brother-in-law.
I don't want it to be noticed if it's 3 guys in an alley at midnight

Like some others have stated, there's a time and place for everything. I think you're lying to yourself if you think you don't want ANYONE to notice your watch...

I buy my rolexes for my own pleasure, but at the same time. My black sub no date is my casual watch, i don't expect any compliments from it. In the other hand, whenever i wear my two-tone daytona; every once in a while someone would compliment it. I don't mind it at all, you are wearing something to the public; you should expect some compliments or diss and have to deal with it.

Like many I wear it for me.

BUT... people do notice it and make a judgement based on what you're wearing. If it does get noticed I prefer it not to be so flashy.

Think grey debadged AMG S65 quietly idling vs. the neon green huracan revving its engine with the flames shooting out of the exhaust at the light

I’m going to have to go with this. Okay at watch stores and WIS gatherings. Uncomfortable with total strangers out in public. Someone else noted “when buying luxury items.” For sure when you walk into a higher end car dealership, or a luxury goods boutique, they are sizing you up as you enter. If wearing a nice watch gets me better service, I’m okay with that.

Neither.

I notice it, that is all that matters.

Do I WANT my watch to be noticed? ....I really don’t care either way. Like others have said, if someone notices, it’s ok....If someone comments, it’s ok...maybe it’ll be a conversation starter. I don’t wear them to be noticed, but I do realize if I’m wearing a YG DD40, it’ll probably happen, vs a vintage sub or Daytona. I’m ok if someone says something, as long as it doesn’t get uncomfortable. And for the most part....I try to practice situational awareness. JMO

Funny.
I get a lot more reactions to my Patek Philippe watches.

Elderly couple in the hotel elevator (I wore my PP 5120) "that's a very nice wrist watch young man, Patek Philippe is special (with a big smile) !"

PS
PP 5120 is for the most people a $ 30 gold-plated Citizen watch.

Young man ? I am 45 +

These days most people pay zero attention to watches regardless of what they are. Most people don't wear any sort of watch anymore and if they have a need for one it's a smart watch. You could shove a Rolex in someone's face and most will wonder why you're so old-fashioned. The only bang you may get is when you're hanging around a bunch of people who size you up from head to toe. I personally don't hang out with people like that.

I don’t care if the general public knows I have a Rolex. I prefer they don’t actually. The only time I want it noticed is when I am at the counter looking at high end watches. I don’t dress fancy and I want to be taken seriously and not brushed off. So as I am talking to them I make sure my Rolex is noticeable. Believe it or not it works.
