Question: DSOTM chipping/cracking/scratching

I'm in Chicago for the weekend and I went to the nice omega boutique on the magnificent mile. I checked out the Dark Side in person, and it looked great. Anyway, I was wondering if there have been many long term reviews or issues with chips or cracking. Also, since it's ceramic, will it keep that brand new shine indefinitely? Any owners or general experience would be appreciated. Thx

Oh, the floodgates will open now!

Personally I've had mine since December and wear it most days and have never worried until Friday when I was about to put it on spotted what I thought was a chip on the bezel. Serious panic set in but the mark just came off with a fingernail and a cloth. The previous day I had been out with the wrong clothes and shoes on for what I ended up doing and fell down a rocky ravine and ended up quite sore.

Jeans ripped, Body sore, DSOM ok.

Ps. There is only ONE picture circulating that shows a broken DSOM case but lots of people implying the world will stop if you buy one.

Don't worry about it. Someone will post that 1 pic that going around to discourage you. Insure it and call it a day

I just got mine tonight, so I don't have any fuel to add to the fire.
All I can say is this Omega is stealth!! The strap is awesome too.

I'm seriously wanting one too. I have searched and searched (forums and google etc) and I have only seen the one pic of a crack/chip. So it seems like it'll be OK...

Anyone have any aftermarket strap ideas for the DSOM?

After you buy one, take a hammer to it just to break it in. If it survives, you are good to go

I just received my GSOTM and think it's pretty sturdy. I'm sure it's fairly durable.

I did however notice some odd quirks with the 9300 small seconds hand. It freezes VERY SLIGHTLY when the chrono is reset and when setting the minute hand backwards it moves back while it's hacked but goes back into the place the moment you stop using force. Apparently, many people are seeing this on the Omega Forums but I must admit I was quite concerned at first.

I have not spotted any chips on mine. Still look brand new. The ceramic case is very tough. Own it for about a year now.

Would it be correct to assume it will keep its brand new shine forever, barring any catastrophic chip/damage?

in 40 years we will know if it was a good design or a train wreck. My money goes to the design that has already passed the test of time, the original moonwatch.
