Not in a million years would I turn to YouTube for taking a watch of this caliber apart. But...that's me.

NO! Everyone knows that you have to heat up the crystal with a blowtorch, that'll allow you to insert a needle through the crystal and pull the flake out while it's in it's liquid state! Or you can just heat up the watch enough to melt the gold flake onto the dial somewhere.

Seriously man, let the service center repair it. Loose pieces inside the watch is bad news.

If i had kids and they did that, their college fund would be paying for the repairs

If you don't mind the risk of breaking a day date 40 (as if they are disposable toys to you), you must be wealthy enough to just throw it out and get a brand new one.

Problem solved. next post.

Amazingly to my fears, it survived. I noticed a day later there was a little shard of gold inside on the dial but nothing major, as it switched the date, the date is now half way down past the bottom of the window.

I'd suggest staying at a Holiday Inn before attempting this.

There is a possibility the jewel bearing for the rotor broke. Happened to me once on a sub I dropped 3 feet onto carpet. Had to get a complete overhaul as the jewel broke and got into the movement. If you put it to your ear and shake it lightly and hear a grinding sound as the rotor turns them you might have this problem.

There is no jewel rotor bearing in the DayDate 40. It is the new movement with ball bearings.

Utter nonsense, an accident like this can happen to anyone.

You're comment is non-sense. True that this incident can happen to anyone, but we're talking about how he chooses to deal with the problem. He obviously doesn't value the timepiece and the intricacies involved in maintaining it.

Lighten up.

Bas was referring to the accident not the proposed repair.

He knows the intricacies of a Rolex movement far more than you do and had previously stated his thoughts.

Whenever mine breaks I use Scotch Tape and little bits of wire to fix it, seems to do the trick.

Bingo. Don’t feed it or it will stick around. If the OP doesn’t mind breaking it I suggest he throw it away and buy another...
