Opinions on Datejust 16030 Blue Dial
Hi there,
I am new to vintage Rolexes but not new to vintage watches in general. Compared to other brands I find it very hard to seperate the good and bad ones. Mainly due to two reasons: 1. There are so many variations. 2. There are so many fake and franken watches out there. Therefore, I would like to learn from you :-) This forum has already been a great help! I am currently looking at this DJ 16030 from chrono24. The dial looks very nice. Maybe too nice? What do you think about the dial and hands and why? Thank you! Best, Sebastian |

I think it's a very nice service dial marked T but actually luminova. A bigger problem is the springbar poking out of the 1 o'clock lug.

For comparison, here is a similar watch sold by Bulang&Sons. Lume etc. looks very similar and they do not mention a service dial. I gues they would if it was a service dial, right?

If they knew I suppose they would. Are you upset it might be a service dial? The markers are very white for a vintage tritium dial. That and the overall condition of the dial suggest a service dial which is no sin on a DJ. If you must be pedantic, used DJ dials can still be had for a few hundred. There are only a few people on watch forums that that must have 'original' watches which very few actually are.

I also think it looks quite white. However, I know from vintage Speedmasters that there are examples that are white due to the lume batch, stocking conditions, etc. It might also be just well preserved. So your are referring only to the good condition and colour of the lume, when examining a watch? |

That might be an original tritium dial. I'd ask for a UV photo.
Here's my (former) late '80s DJ with an original dial that also had hour dots that were quite white. Not all of them take on a lot of patina. |

Mostly matte, but it did have a slight sheen. The great thing about these blue dials is how they change in the light. This one went from a dark navy to a bright royal blue in the sun.
