Someone’s getting a Pepsi SS today in SoCal, but it isn’t me

Got the call from Maui Jewelers (North County Mall, Escondido) saying it’s mine if I can do two things:
- Purchase PM at full retail
- Make it in today

I was just there yesterday morning, but I had to fly up to NorCal yesterday afternoon for a board meeting today. So, sadly I cannot make it there today. Secondarily, I’m pretty sure they would not have a PM in stock I would want.

Anyone else out there willing to do this deal and in SoCal to consummate today (who knows it may last to tomorrow), give them a call at (760) 432-8400‬.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Purchase PM at full price? No point in that deal.

You might as well go grey for the BLRO if you’re forced to get the PM at retail.

Eric (watch your style) says in his latest the trend is to make you buy three undesirable including a PM, so this deal was better, but still not worth it IMO

yup, makes no sense to pay full retail plus tax for PM.

It could be a good deal if you want the PM and could care less about the BLRO. Flip it unworn and pocket $5-7K, your "discount" on the PM.

Why? Wouldn’t you have two watches if you bought from the AD and only one at an extremely inflated price from the grey seller? Given those two choices, I think I would purchase from the AD.

Still makes no sense if your paying full retail for PM. it just negates your profit you will get on the BLRO and you'll be surprised at what a gray dealer will offer you. They list at $16-$17k. They know they will sell it for $15 and some change

You be lucky to get $12-$13k for it. Definitely not worth it

I would fit into this category. The BLRO does zero for me but a YG Submariner with the sun burst blue dial... now you have my attention

Wow, if 3 undesirable it is not something i'd ever be interested in. I'd just buy Tudor, Omega, Patek, AL&S instead.

Thanks for sharing with everyone and hope your BLRO comes soon.

I guess I’m on the other side of the fence than most. I love my AD and have been the beneficiary of a good relationship and some PM purchases. Therefore, I’ve collected a couple of SS pieces that I assume are hard to get (126600 and 126660). I’m not saying it’s right, but I understand it. Also, after obtaining three PM models, I very seldom wear any of my SS watches anymore. I love PM so much it’s hard to me to leave the house with SS. Even my 126660 doesn’t get much wrist time even though I’m completely enamored with the watch and the history it brings with it. If I were to do it all over again, I would buy all my watches from trusted sellers here on TRF. I would have saved thousands. Would I have some of my cool SS pieces? Probably not.

Or, ya know, just buy PM from a TS where you can generally get the same kind of discount without having to go through the trouble of buying a watch you don't want just to resell, and recoup your losses...so tired of these AD games.

That deal does not pencil out. And personally, I would be offended if an AD I had a relationship with called me and "offered" that.

That’s sad that you can’t just get the watch you want.

I cannot understand why someone would buy a $30k+ PM piece they don't want, which will be worth $10k less if they try to sell it to a grey, instead of just paying the additional $7k premium for a BLRO from a grey (really only $6k premium since you won't be paying sales tax).

OP: How do you define your relationship with that particular AD? Have you bought most of your pieces from them or just one/two?

Not sure what to make of their "offer".

I was in the same AD the other day asking about the waiting list for that watch. They told me that there are a few people waiting, but they would take my name and cc number and call me when my turn comes up. I didn’t do it, but if I had and they called me and said I also now need to buy a PM piece I would be pissed. I would also be curious about the OP’s buying history with them. I have bought jewelry there, but never a watch.

I don't see the point in buying PM at retail to get the BLRO. Unless you want both and don't mind paying retail on the PM. If I wanted the BLRO bad, I would just go grey or wait for the numbers to come down (which may never happen)

PM at full price... absolute BS. Better off paying the absurd grey tax and telling these stealers to stick those PM pieces up their...

+1. If an AD said that to me I would call Rolex corporate to report that behavior. They might not give a crap but just shady for a US AD to do that.

Rolex USA doesn't give a crap if a dealer bundles.

There’s a sucker born every minute ... laughable offer IMO. PM at full pop plus CA sales tax on both. That’s the equivalent of buying a BLRO at $15k over retail, unless you have to have that PM and will never sell it.

Well there's another current thread on how PM discounts are less or not at all lately, often depending on which reference. Same thread shows that not everyone wants to buy from grey.

On the up side, they at least “offered” it to you instead of calling one of their “best customers” for a quick $5K over. I wonder what they would say if you made that proposal to them in person.
