Agreed... that's the confusing thing about the RSC quote...
Quote:
The crystal seems shot and that can be replaced with NOS. I assume it can go through a modest polish (not some heavy grinding). They can gently clean the dial too... I think. Are you sure the case back is a "must replace" item? The correct period bracelet could also be found I am sure. |

This is what the repair quote said;
Required; Complete Service $1,199, Bezel Insert $71.50, Hands $77.00, Authentication $99.00, Case Back $192.50, Case Middle $770.00. Recommendations (optional) Bracelet 93150 20 585 $1,267.20, Dial as per original specification O/S order $4.62.00. The service is very high but the parts are reasonable. |

I haven't done the conversion but I think it says $100K in Aussie dollars. I don't know if that make any difference.

The watch had a $500 reserve. When I sell a watch I always start it at £1 for a low listing fee. Someone always bids just that £1 and at one stage is the highest bidder on a £XXXXX watch. They never end at £1, of course. Ebay prices are probably the best indication of a true market price due to the size of the audience. A watch can easily go from £1000 to £10,000 in the last furious 3 minutes of the auction.

That is why you don’t have Rolex service the watch. The dial and hands maybe just fine. Rolex wants to bring a watch up to their standards which is new like and do not worry about value. That is why you have to be very careful with Rolex servicing a vintage watch. And the watch is best offer sell. |

Agreed. Somehow something does not add up. I can understand someone selling off an item of high value simply because they have no interest but still something does not add up about his post.

Am I missing something? Why on earth would anyone pay $100k for THAT watch (well, really for ANY watch)...it's in horrific condition. I guess it must be rare or something, but sorry...EWWWW. Can't stand scratches/marks/dings/dingy/generally aged watches.
NEW NEW NEW please!!! |

Going by the thread he started, it appears as if he just threw out the AU$100K out as a number, nothing else. I don't think he's serious about that figure. Sure is a nice watch though. Whoever pointed out the rarity of the DRSD to him deserves a huge amount of kudos IMO.
We'll be posting a DRSD MKll for sale pretty soon, restored by Bob Ridley. We didn't even consider anyone else. After reading TRF for awhile, we realized that it would have been a huge mistake sending it to an RSC. I'm not sure if we'll be offering it on TRF though, we'll see. I do know I'm not looking forward to the sales. One just has to read the Watchout section for about 10 minutes to know that it's a cruel cruel world out there. |

Re: Watch for sale -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey xxthe_remedyxx! Thank you for your enquiry. I'm hoping to get as much as possible for a watch of this calibre and rarity. That's why I put the price at A$100K, since the forum required a price and I really don't know the value to a collector. The price cannot be increased so I started at A$100K but I will take the best offer I can get. Best regards, Abi Nathan - haitek@live.com.au Quote: Originally Posted by xxthe_remedyxx How much are you hoping to get for it? |

Hmmm...
A used 1998 air cooled 911 would do plus a $50K in flight time from NetJets and a nice Nike watch which hooks up to an iPhone... plus a nice bottle of wine to finish it off.
The watch is so banged up, it is not worth even $10K to me and I am a lunatic for vintage watches. For that amount, I want a COMEX with papers and the dive logs of the first owner. http://www.luxist.com/2009/12/01/ren...p-for-auction/ |

He really does not know anything about the watch, or so he makes it seem.
If I were trying to sell a valuable item that I had no knowledge of or interest in, I would spend time researching it to understand it and know it's value. Something just does not sit right and that PM somehow reinforces that feeling. Just my opinion though, it's just not right for me.

Are people here actually considering looking into a purchase like this? As in, it would be within the realm of reality for them? If so, then I think I need to take my leave of this forum as I am grossly out of my league. I would have to take out a 30 year mortgage for something like that. I just bought a 16610LV from someone on the forum and it represents my watch budget for, well, the year (at least). If there are really people here who have that kind of money, I will feel way out of place. |

May not be real or for another watch. If RSC USA and probably Canada won't touch the watch, why would any RSC?
Not factual, just a question.
