First time wearing a Rolex

I got my Rolex the old fashioned way…I inherited it. The GMT Master pictured. I had zero knowledge of watches (I did know Rolex was an expensive brand) and didn’t even wear one until I got an Apple Watch a few years ago. When I got the GMT my first thought was to sell it because I knew I could get a fair amount for it. Then I put it on. It fit perfectly and looked amazing. Suddenly I didn’t want to sell it. I was still wary of wearing it in public as it is a little flashy and I don’t like to draw attention. After wearing it inside my own house a few time to get used to it I finally wore it out on thanksgiving weekend. I wore it while my wife and I went wine tasting and spent the night in a hotel. I actually had a nightmare that night that I left the watch in the hotel and had to run back to get it and it was gone. After wearing it that weekend I see why people really like these kind of watches and my goal is to someday be able to not be too nervous wearing it in public and to be able to afford to get one with my own money!

First time wearing a Rolex

Welcome to TRF!

Beautiful heirloom! The confidence of wearing the watch comes with time.

I too started with an heirloom years ago. Wore it almost everyday for 6 years which helped me develop conservative watch habits.

I'd say get it insured through Hodinkee. It's a simple way to enjoy your watch and not worry about losing it. Yeah, they won't replace your inherit watch, but you'll get $ back (depends on what you value @).

Welcome to the forum and nice GMT. I think the more you wear it, the more comfortable you will be with it. Enjoy it and good luck if you decide to go down the rabbit hole of watches...it can be a very deep hole!

Wear that beautiful watch and enjoy it for what it is!! It’s a great watch, insurance on my 16613lb is like $10 a month. Zero deductible, covered for loss, theft or damage anywhere in the world. Maybe that will help you ease your worries.

You'll get used to wearing it in public over time. Most folks won't even notice.

You should have sold it immediately! Now you are hopelessly stuck in watch purgatory with the rest of us. Welcome

What insurance do you have and (if you don't mind me asking) what value you insured it for?

I ask because the quote I got for my 126300 and 116600 comes to about $400/yr...

State Farm personal articles policy and it’s for 10k. They raise the coverage a little every year for inflation.

Beautiful watch! Wear it in good health and enjoy. Don’t worry what others think. The GMT master was my first as well. Wear it with good memories of whom passed it down to you.

Super cool watch. And yeah, I get it. I felt super self-conscious when I first got my Sub. 3 years later I don't give it a second thought.
