Extension links that use pins instead of screws?
I was looking at a 1980s explorer and it looked right except it had a couple of extension links in the bracelet that appeared to have pins rather than screws? They look exactly like the other links. Has anyone seen something like this before? Would these be older links from another watch? Aftermarket links? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, Rolex did use links with pins instead of screws but to my knowledge only on gold bracelets in the 90s like the model 92908. Im sure someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

The removable links on the old oval link US jubilees had pins like small spring bars not screws. Those are the only stainless bracelets I am aware of with pins.
Post some pics. |

Most 17000 bracelets used pins
For the Oysterquartz. I say most because some 17000 bracelets used screws and were interchangeable with the 96660 bracelet on the ref 1530

Completely different shape than what would be on an Explorer that the OP mentioned.

Here is a pic of the three links. They appear to be solid which makes me think they are aftermarket used when someone needed to expand the bracelet. The rest of the links in the bracelet are the correct hollow links. Any thoughts.

Even the screws dont look right. The single screw head that I see looks small and very recessed. It may be that the screws got stripped out so they replaced them with pins to hold it together.

Correct. I've only seen those pins on aftermarket bracelets.

The diameter of those bars looks way too small, as compared to the space in the hollow link where it fits.
A mismatch that great will eventually result in damage to the link because of the loose tolerance.
