Are they 5 digit Yacht Master the post progressive Rolex ever made?

I think it was the first Rolex with polished center links and max dial (bigger lume plots). In the era when the 16622 was born (1999), there was no polished center links nor maxi dial. Unless the Daytona, but I think that came out a year later.


I love the platinum yacht master. I think it revolutionized Rolex like nothing before.

In my younger days the Rolex YM was a watch that I really liked but it’s a model I have never owned

Beautiful watch, love the red seconds hand and red text. I gotta say it looks like you can pick up one for around $10K on Chrono24 - not bad.

I like it, always say Im gonna get one but never do.
The bezel on the original YM just kinda scares me, seems like a ding could really turn out bad and expensive if annoying enough.

The YM II SS looked cool but I have never needed to time a Regatta so just kinda not for me.
I think the whole YM line is one I will simply admire from afar...

Even the new one, I wish the #s on the bezel were easier to read in dim areas but in dim lighting I just found it hard to quickly make out. It's a shame as I love Ti watches!

The original 16622 was the only Rolex I bought new twice. I got one shortly after its introduction in 2000 and just a few months later I had the opportunity to buy one of the last 16520’s. Had to sell it to afford the Daytona but bought another a year later when funds were replenished.
I think it’s a stretch to call it one of Rolex’s most important models but it did elevate the luxury level of their SS line. I have never owned or desired a Submariner but saw this Yachtmaster as a more dressy version of that. Would consider another if the right one at the right price came along.

My first Rolex, the 116622 pt dial. A special piece to me. I've been wearing it for the past 9 years. If Rolex would re-issue it in 42mm instead of 40mm, I'd be all over it.

The YM was a testbed to try the maxi dial, then replicated in the Sub 16610LV aka Kermit. Also, the 16622 was the first piece to introduce solid center links (as opposed to hollow) if I'm not mistaken, adding extra strength, the end of the sagging bracelet.

Attended a Rolex event last night. There Must’ve been at least 150-200 guests in attendance. Most of them wore a Rolex.

Watches I didn’t see on anyone’s wrist at the event.

1) yacht-master
2) yacht-master 2
3) sea-dweller
4) deep sea
5) sky-dweller

There were mostly submariners, Daytonas, DJ, GMT-master 2. Even saw a 1908!

I spent the evening going around the event venue and just wrist-watching.

Feel better about my yacht-master now.

I thought the bezel was platinum? My wedding ring is platinum and that thing is as hard as a rock. I would imagine that bezel is scratch proof? Am I right? (I guess not... interesting)

No doubt the 16622 with platinum sparkling dial was a beautiful and unique piece; but mostly under-appreciated.

I totally agree, the platinum yacht master was a game changer for Rolex, it brought a fresh and luxurious look to their lineup.
