yachtmaster, 40mm bezel scratches, question

Hello,
I am really interested in buying the 40mm yachtmaster, but hesitate because I heard complaints that the bezel scratches easy.

Does anyone have any pictures of theirs scratched you can post... how bad does it look?

im deciding between this, and a new submariner black, with maxi dial. I want to make the best choice. The Platinum yachtmaster just speaks to me..

You should buy the watch in person not online

Any watch you purchase will get scratches at some point. Wear them with pride!

I'm new here so the sight won't let me post any pictures until I have 10 posts.

Can a platinum YM bezel that is scratched & dinged up on both the polished & blasted areas be refinished? What would the approximate cost be?

Could/would Rolex replace it? Cost?

I’d contact Bernard watches in Austin (Bernardwatch.com, I believe). They have a reasonably priced refinishing service and their guy has decades of experience and does beautiful work, all to Rolex standards. They can tell you if they can refinish the bezel.

I’ve had a SS/PL YM for almost 20 years and not babied it. The bracelet got pretty beat up but the bezel remains in surprisingly good condition. In my experience a lot of the worrying about the platinum bezel is unwarranted. I can’t speak for the gold versions, though, since I’ve never had a gold YM.

Here is a picture of the one scratch on my bezel , after about a year of heavy wear.

RSC can refinish this.

I’ve not had any issues with scratches on the bezel of my 16622. Seems to be holding up just fine.

Mine is coming up on 2 years of wear, not daily mind you but regularly worn.
I have nary a mark on it. It is no more prone than any other watch in any given circumstance.

The Plat bezel 100% will scratch easier than a ceramic bezel so not sure this is accurate. With that said, for the OP- it depends on how you use your watch and whether hairline scratches bother you - bc I tell you, from personal experience, the plat bezel will succumb to these. But It doesn’t bother me at all.

You are right. I am wrong
I was looking at it form a stance of- just wearing it day to day, not doing any thing that would damage a watch, just living life, it would wear the same. Now if doing strenuous activities, the plat bezel is more susceptible to wear than lets say a ceramic bezel, but the ceramics can be damaged but it would take bit more of a knock to do so. That being said, the rings surrounding he inserts can just as easily be damaged, but leave the ceramic untouched.

I have knocked my plat bezel several times with no marks. i guess i didnt hit it hard enough.

Platinum will scratch easier but you don’t lose metal (not like gold). Platinum when impacted will shift itself around and appear like a scratch (over time will have the patina look). However, a polish will shift the metal back in place and look brand new and losing minimal precious metal.

I think the 904L steel scratches more easily..than my PT YM bezel.
