GMT 1675 or 16750??
So I'm starting to fall in love with the pepsi vintage GMT. Before I decide to buy anything I go through hours of consideration and deliberation (I actually find this nearly as exciting as buying the watch itself). My question to you is what would you choose and why?
1675: big pro for me are the more radial bevels of the earlier ones. I just love beveled edges. 16750: big pro. Quick set date and better (?) movement. Thoughts anyone? Also which bracelet is most appropriate for these in your opinion? The rivet? Or folded?

The movements are both great. No worries there. A 1675 will be easier to find

Both are great. I currently have my 1675 on an oval link, very comfortable. I also have a rivet and an oyster but don't forget Natos and Zulus. My favorite watch.

Both great, classic timepieces. I'd just try to find the best example of either model that's in your budget. (The quickset feature is under-rated, IMHO, if you have a steady rotation of watches. I hate swinging those hands around for five minutes to advance to the correct date!) I think the 16750 only came on a more modern Oyster or Jubilee. Happy hunting!

Aesthetically the late 1675 and matte dial 16750 are very similar, of course. The quick-set date is a big plus though. I love mine. I also have a 1675, but a late gilt-dial example with small triangle 24-hour hand, so they are quite different.

They are both great watches and have been discussed and compared many times here. I own both models and wear a 16750 daily. I also placed an older USA rivet bracelet on the watch which I find very light and comfortable. I wouldn't fret too much over the bracelet since they are all fairly comfortable. Some prefer Oyster bracelets and others prefer the Jubilee. It is basically a personal preference choice.
Buying the model you want should be your first consideration and the bracelet should be secondary. Good luck! Whatever you choose will surely be a winner.

Both are great and own both as well. For me it isn't which is better it is obtaining the best example of either one. So if I had to choose between a nice 1675 and a pristine 16750 the decision is easy--16750. If I had to choose between a nice 16750 and a pristine 1675 the decision is easy--1675. I also am speaking to matte dials and not a gilt 1675. As for bracelets--I prefer the correct bracelet that comes with watch. So if it is a folded link--works for me or if it is rivet for early example--works as well. All about preferences and taste is purely subjective! Again--when it comes to vintage watches it is all about quality so regardless of reference get the very best example money can buy! Cheers,

Dear all, as tradition would have it, allow me to point out that this is my first post, although I have lurked around many many hours reading your well-informed comments, reviews etc. Thanks for those.
As to the question at hand, I have spent close to two years looking for a 1675 or a 16750 (matte dial, painted indexes etc). In the end, two things mattered to me: 1) it's an organic thing and the watch had to speak to me, and 2) my passion for Rolex began at age 13, watching Magnum PI. So it had to be a GMT Master 16750, circa 1983 (when I was 13 and started watching the show and noticed the character's watch). For years after that, I longed for a GMT Master. Eventually, I came across a 1983 16750, and I love it. Each time I put it on, I think back to the kid I was, watching the show, I hear the theme song, and Thomas Magnum's familiar: "I know what you are thinking...and you're right." PatrickR |

Oh, in regard to nice and pristine, when you go shopping for a toilet, have you ever found yourself debating between a pristine porcelain example or one of those nice high tech Japanese jobs that do everything for you except cook breakfast? Lol, Pete |

Appreciative of all of your comments! Thanks so much for the input. One question regarding the bracelets. How do you know which is period correct? I know that some 1675s had folded and some had rivet. No?

Hi
Just picked up a one owner nearly mint Pepsi 1675 with box etc, with a 1.7mil serial (maybe 1967 or so) making it my oldest vintage to date. Got it from my AD who chanced upon it on a trade in. He serviced it, cleaned it up and replaced the Oyster bracelet out of necessity to a solid link one. I suspect it has also had a few other updates prior to him getting it. Whilst this clearly does not make it in 'original condition', it looks and feels really nice, and makes a change from my Subs - go for the 1675 - You will not be disappointed! |

For whatever reason, I like the plexi crystal watches. I believe the 16750 is a sapphire, so that'd nix it for me.
From arms-length, they both have the same aesthetics, so it comes down to what YOU want. Nice 1675s are starting to get harder to come by, so that's something to consider. I usually go off of a gut-check. I was all set to buy a 1675 one day and when I walked into the shop in Columbus GA, they had a 1655 that had just been traded in. I got a smokin' deal on a 'grail' watch, and forgot all about the 1675 that I'd gone in to see in the first place. All things happen for a reason, so unless you're checking a watch off of a "must have" list, just buy the one that speaks to you at the time of purchase. |

Good to know. I tend to think anything with a matte dial is vintage though ;)

The 16750 crystal is acrylic. Mr. Doug's comment in another post stated that the 16750 had a sapphire crystal. If it did have a sapphire crystal, I'd agree with your comment that it is not vintage.

I owned a 1675 and will say that your fingers will go raw from that stupid little crown if you haven't worn the watch in a handful of days don't have a quickset date feature ;-)
