Yachtmaster Bezel

Regarding the YachtMaster bezel, what causes the recessed matte background to wear and look uneven (see picture)? Is this is caused by attempted polishing and not ordinary wear?
Thanks,
Don

Looks like they tried to polish it and failed miserably.

Or just wearing it while doing work that involves contact with the bezel, but more than likely someone worried about slight scratches on the shiny surfaces of the bezel taking a Cape Cod cloth and allowing it to get all over the non-polished surfaces.

On the platinum bezel, it's usually just dirt and oil from being touched. A little dish soap and a tooth brush, and that cleans right up.

was it a bezel insert? have it replaced from RSC would solve the problem.

Or refinish, as described in this thread.

I've had my YM for a year and the bezel looks as good as new. I don't want whatever causes this to happen to mine. Over, bad polish still sounds like what happens.

I've refinished quite a few of them, both plat and YG.
The method shown in that link is outdated, lapping disk, sandblaster and Rolex bezel holders is all you need, taping the sandblasted part is a pain and not recommended.

Overall condition suggests it isn't honest wear but a dopy polish job. It probably looked better before. :(

I'm new here so the sight won't let me post any pictures until I have 10 posts.

Can a platinum YM bezel that is scratched & dinged up on both the polished & blasted areas be refinished? What would theapproximate cost be?

Could/would Rolex replace it? Cost?
