Rolex Forums in The New York Times!

Very cool to see this forum being mentioned as the top source for information. Great community!

Interesting read.
One of the experts recommends putting your watches on a winder when not in use to avoid the “solidifying of lubricants”. Never really considered that, to be honest. He also sells winders starting at $3500 for a 2 watch model, so maybe take that with a grain of salt.
Nevertheless, it’s an interesting article.

Very cool. I guess that's essentially how most ended up here at one point or another. Always nice to see TRF get mentioned like this.

I don't know, the Times has been getting things wrong quite a bit lately.

Am I the only one who reads that as him giving TRF and Watchuseek as examples of what he says in the preceding sentence?

Yes you could certainly read it that way. It’s certainly not clear if he’s recommending or warning.

IMO he's warning before recommending. And 'keyboard warriors' may have a broader meaning. Rude and obnoxious people will be there too, not only fake experts. That's how I read it.

That’s exactly how it is written so yes. Welcome to the home of keyboard warriors and many at that.

Indeed it does read like that, but the last sentence and the header give the context that TRF is a good resource.

It’s the sentence that follows TRF and watchuseek that possibly turn his meaning positive. If you stop reading at the sentence that includes TRF and go by what comes before it then it reads/sounds like a warning but once you read the next sentence he seems to be lumping TRF in with the sites he’s recommending with the use of the word “Also.”

But you’re correct in that he was asked the question what resources do you consider essential. Seeing how that was his answer to that question it should then shape how you interpret his answer which would seem to make it an endorsement. It’s basically a buyer beware answer. The internet is great but not everything is true. Here’s some good sites but just understand not everything you read is accurate.

With close to 235,000 members it would be hard to recommend any forum this size without that caveat.

Either way it’s poor writing when it leaves the reader to guess.

Definitely how I read it at first. Oh well...we all know what a great resource this place can be; Lord knows I got 95% of my Rolex knowledge from this place.

I also agree with this; it's not 100% clear which way he's going with it.

I read it as both. TRF and other forums do contain a lot of knowledge but that doesn’t mean you should take everything as is and assume it’s good info.

I read it as he is recommending people look at TRF and WUS as useful references. However the way he worded it and wrote it is not that of a professional writer.. IMO
