saw a new ploprof this weekend

I was poking around the mall with my kids in tow. I'd forgotten it had been newly issued. The incessant whining of the kids meant I couldn't check it out up close but It's a monster piece of steel. Maybe I'll check it out tonight.

That is one UGLY blob of a watch, IMHO. Cheers, Bill P.

Agreed, it is a major piece of metal. Tried it on last night and it felt quite good on a rubber strap but somehow top heavy, almost like the DSSD.
Don't mind the look of it even though it is abit unusual.

Give it a go and see it for yourself.

I went tried it on last night. They only had the rubber strap, which I think I prefer anyway.

I like it, although it's not exactly understated. I think the DSSD you could hide under your cuff, but not this baby.

$9350 Canadian Dollars is thankfully too much for me to justify. I'll just keep waiting until a 1680 Rolex fals into my lap during a lapse in judgement.

I hated this watch when i saw pictures of it on the net. However i saw one in a local AD just last week, on the mesh bracelet it looked great.

I also tried one on at a Canadian AD. Yes $9350 is steep but it houses their in house 8500 movement. Anyways, I went the DSSD route.

A while back, a local chain AD had its "Swiss event" and I had the opportunity to compare the PloProf with several watches, in particular, the Omega Planet Ocean and the Rolex Deep Sea.

From the press relese photos I did not expect to be impressed with the PloProf. It looked like a weird, chunky, unfinished piece of steel. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Admittedly, the PloProf is an unusual looking watch but the fit and finish is awesome. I was particularly impressed with the dial and lumed bezel. Unfortunately, the display model was on the rubber strap but even so the watch was very impressive. Perhaps most surprising, it was my wife's favorite of the three watches.

Previously, I had compared the PO and the Deep Sea for comfort on my wrist and preferred the PO. The PO's bracelet and case made for a more balanced feel on my wrist. The DSSD, like all Rolex sport watches, suffers in the bracelet department. The DSSD bracelet seems out of proportion to the watch; i.e., too small and light. The Omega bracelet seems more appropriate for the design and has a more substantial feel to it. IMO, the DSSD bracelet makes the watch sit atop my 7 3/4" round wrist rather than on it as with the PO bracelet. The DSSD seemed top heavy and slipped from side to side on my round wrist.

Last Wednesday, I had the opportunity to try the PloProf with the mesh bracelet and was even more impressed. It is a work of art and like the Omega mesh I wear on my SMP, it is extremely comfortable; heavy yes, but it caresses the wrist.

The MSRP of the PloProf and the DSSD are comparable but even at MSRP, I would prefer the PloProf. My AD's substantial discount makes it even more attractive. Needless to say, the PloProf has moved to the top of my wish list.

The instant I took at look at Mike's pic of his Ploprof, thousands of dollars started to fly from my pockets. Pics are evil! muahhahahahah

My Canadian AD was very negotiable, and I paid waaaaaaay less than the $9350 msrp. I got mine on bracelet with an orange rubber thrown in for well south of $7k cad.

I asked to see it on a whim, just curious, and I couldn't leave without it. I was simply blown away by it. I wear it almost as much as my Deepsea, and find it as captivating today as the day I bought it. No burnout on this one.

As my grandson says, "The PloProf is awesome, PaPa! You need one!"

My AD just got eight in and has replaced an order for more. His generous discount certainly makes it tempting.

Yes Papa, you need one :)

Wow, eight pieces, that must be a very large and successful AD. My AD got one, then sold it to me and had to go on a waiting list to get any more (back in August/Sept). I saw one in Oakville Ontario in a window display last week, if any locals are looking for one, PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.

No, he is small and successful but sold his first three, ordered another three which sold before arrival, then ordered eight and most of them are gone.

Strangely, it is difficult to find even one PloProf in stock among all of Atlanta ADs, even the ones that stock the Deep Sea. (One AD did not know the PloProf existed.) They apparently do not believe that there is a market for a $9K Omega diver.
