Spring Skiing at Squaw Valley

We headed to Squaw Valley this past Thursday for some Spring skiing. Had an absolute blast. It was absolutely beautiful up there and it was hard coming back home. Maybe a quick to Mammoth to close the season.

Packed up and ready to go.

When we arrived by 4 pm and it was in the high 60s!

Wow, what a view!!

My son saw the heated pool and 20 minutes later we were pool side.

Decisions, decisions... Squaw or Alpine Meadows tomorrow?

It was a beautiful night but off to bed for an early start.

Up early and on to the shuttle. We were too chicken taking the lift from the hotel.

Arrived and right away into the gondola.

What a ride up, absolutely beautiful!!

Time to do some skiing!!

What a day!! Totally wiped out.

We decided to take the tram back to the bottom of the mountain.

Once we made it back to the hotel it was back to the pool.

What a trip. Recommended ;-)

I'm jealous! Our season ended a month ago. Normally, I'm not a fan of spring skiing and mashed potato snow, but the snow there looks great. Thanks for posting the great photos.

That looks just amazing! Glad you had such a great time ... nothing like spring skiing if the conditions are good IMO.

On a separate note ... I’m glad to see your youngster skiing Both of ours snowboard ... much to my dismay

As spring beings to bloom here and thoughts of summer near, I also am extremely envious of your trip.
As a fanatical snowboarder, I love nothing more than being able to ride in a sweatshirt (and sometimes even a tee shirt) late in the season.
Stoked that you had a great trip and thank you for sharing it with us!

Give them time. Both of my snowboarding daughters eventually decided the downhill face plants hurt too much as they got older and went back to skiing.

Thanks, Danny. The weather you guys were getting down here was pretty much the same up there. I mean, where else can one go swimming and skiiing on the same day? Incredible.

They are priceless memories and I savor every second of them. My Son is such an amazing kid and it’s an honor being a Father.

Squaw will be open until July 4th, I believe Mammoth will be open passed that. Some 58’ of pack at the peak. Around 2 PM there was a ton of slop mid-mountain but enough inclines to barrel through it. If you’re not careful though it’ll grab your skis right from under you!

Me too!! He absolutely loves it. It’s also great seeing skiing ‘back in’ considering how long snowboarding dominated. Today, it’s harmony between skiers and snowboarders and each have their place in the world. I’m a carver and forever will be.

There were a lot of ladies in bikini tops and shells… there were times I felt I was in a movie with all the mid-mountain lodges filled with folks celebrating the Spring.

Can’t wait for next season!!
