Time to buy Submariner?
I purchased my first Rolex 3 years ago a Yacht Master with blue dial. I decided to buy a Submariner of course they are sold out every where.
Couple questions, Is Rolex in any danger of meeting the demand sometime this Year? Is there going to be a big price increase? I have a hard time buying a pre owned watch for more than MSRP of a new one. Any input would be awesome. |

At this point, the cheapest time to buy a rolex was yesterday.

I don't think they will become any easier to get.. however, I don't think you will wait very long for one, all the folks here with new Subs seem to have got them within a month or so of waiting (I myself waited just 7 days!).
My advice is to call into a couple of your local AD's and ask for one - ask for only the watch you want (don't ask for a sub, a gmt and a daytona in the same breath) and you won't look like a speculator, they like this.. I bet you will have have a new Sub' in no time. Good luck.. and great choice! |

Paying more second hand than brand new grinds my gears too! I don’t know whereabouts in the world you are, but Watchfinder in the UK have pre owned Subs starting at around £5600. Pretty sure they dispatch to many other countries too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The best time to buy is when you’re ready and when the watch is available. If that’s now then the answer is yes.

Solid advice, I called mayors and did just that I flipped flopped between the HULK and Black Sub, since I purchased my last watch there they made as if they would put me on the intergalactic waiting list.

I think it is a safe bet that things will continue to stay as they are for a considerable time. Rolex have shown no indication or inclination towards increasing supply to meet demand. It is unlikely that will change in the foreseeable future.
The only fluid factor in all of this is desirability. If the masses decide that something else takes their collective fancy then the second hand prices will drop. But that is unlikely to happen either because when it comes to watches (whether people will admit it or not) how much someone wants something rises as availability decreases. |

I don't think the price(in most places of the world) will change this year. For the demand it will likely be up, unless the global economy tanks miserably. But even if that happens, I am not sure how much impact you can see. I remembered back in 2009, the darkest moment of subprime mortgage crisis that brought down banks surviving two WW and in business for 150+ years, the time when the unemployment rate was double digits, when I shopped around for SS in US AD, the best discount I can get was 5%, not much different from the "bubble time". And that was the time when mainland China's demand wasn't insignificant at all.

They have a vintage Sub, 60 years old....£60,000 So the age of the one I pointed out isn’t that old by comparison, plus more chance of it increasing in value possibly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Depends on how long you are willing to wait for the right watch. 16800/14060/16610s can be had for a bargain/depending on how complete you want the watch set. But if you are going for ceramic your best bet is waiting on your AD of choice & leaving a deposit (if they offer that as an option); You should be able to allocate the watch faster at retail that way.
Imo, grey pricing on 116610LN/116610s are not to terrible if you must have the watch today. |

Price increase is TBD as always. If you want it now, I'd go for it. It comes down to how much your time is worth.. if you don't mind some effort, then you can likely source one from an AD within a reasonable amount of time. But if you want to skip all that and get the watch now, then going grey isnt a terrible idea.. the premium is not that bad really. Good Luck!

I don't think the waitlist for a sub is that long from Mayor's.
