I would never sell mine (36 mm TT DJ that I bought in about 1999). I have never sold a watch I bought. I bought because I liked the watch and would not willingly sell any of them.

I am extremely sorry I sold mine. A SS 1601. I am also sorry I sold my 1680 Red Sub (yes, a Red Sub), and my 16610V 50th Anniversary Sub. My kids didn't want them, so I thought I would show them. I showed me! I AM SOOOOOO, SOOOOOO SORRY!! DON'T SELL ANY, JUST BUY MORE. I did manage to keep two. Thank God.

I would never sell my 114270. It's just too special a watch and, of course, it is my first.

I don't let my watches take on sentiment so I have sold/traded most of my firsts, first Rolex, AP, gold etc.

Interesting to see the discrepancy in opinions.

To answer a couple questions, my Explorer was purchased out of hard work rather than for any particular occasion. I had wanted a "real" watched since I was in college, but I also came to the conclusion that buying anything that wasn't a Rolex would be the wrong move for me. I do love my Explorer, but I also love trying other pieces. After thinking about it some more, I just don't think I could part with it, period. I'm way too sentimental a person to let it go.

My only regret is not having researched Rolex earlier. Had I done that, my first would've been a 116600 Sea Dweller that I had stumbled across at my local AD.

I regret selling mine I got it for a great deal and sold it to trade up to a president. But I should have kept it is the funny it was just a 116200 but it fit perfectly and had such a beautiful smile design.

I let my third rolex go as part of a trade towards a gmt master 2, still regretting it. It was a 14060M and it went along with a speedy reduced + cash for gmt 16710 ln. My first is a polar explorer 2 and is not going anywhere.

I traded my first Rolex, a 36 mm DJ 116234 with blue stick dial, to partially fund a watch purchase for my wife. That was one of my few good trades. I'm glad I did it.

Gutted is the word, don’t ever sell them just keep adding to the collection then sell just before you die and reap the rewards and spunk all the cash

I wish I still had mine, sadly I flipped it.

I sometimes wonder who has it, and is it being treated kindly

I just started buying Rolexes and have 2. I won't sell one to buy another, actually I'm planning to own 4, wear all of them, and then ultimately pass them on to my 4 children.
My parents were poor, I have no keepsakes from them, except for my Dad's martini glasses, and I found the kewpie dolls that I remember as a first toy, when I cleaned out my parents house. I still have both of these, and some pictures, I thought the watches, aimed specifically at each of my children's personalities, would be an lasting keepsake.

I bought my first Rolex and didn't love it. Didn't bat an eye when I traded it for my grail watch, the GMT Master BLRO (16710). I don't tend to get emotionally attached to material things though. I'm a little bit of a freak that way.

Six years ago I sold a 36mm Date-Just (116234) with a silver stick dial and Jubilee bracelet to raise funds for a GMT 116710LN. Loved the Date-Just, but never bonded with the GMT. Learned my lesson! If you love your Explorer, then hang on to it.

Same here - didn't love my first, and it wasn't a gift or heirloom so it didn't carry any sentimental attachment. I have photos of me wearing it and the memories are still there, so all is not lost

Same grail too - 16710 BLRO! haha

I recently sold my first Rolex a few months ago.

Sometimes, making sure your family is well provided for is more important than a piece of steel sitting on your wrist. I don't regret selling it for this reason, however I will be adding it back once I am able to afford it again.

No regrets. Started with 16610, sold it and ran the gamut...Daytonas, GMT's, 5513's,
14060's, then finally settled back down with a tritium 16610.

I sold my first watch, a 1982 TT GMT Master on a jubilee bracelet, to fund my TT Blue Sub. Still have the 16613 (12 years now). It would have been nice to keep the first one, but the desire was strong for the 16613 so it had to go. 😄 Aloha, Tim

No regrets selling. Some people live on the past and some live in the present. If your not going to wear it or your taste have changed, sell it and move on.
