Long ago flipped my first. A 16610. No sentimental value besides hard work. It wasn't a gift. Bought it myself so it was easy.

How do you feel about selling your first Rolex?
Regret actually buying my first Rolex. I thought the DJ II blue Roman fluted bezel would be a good look quickly lost interest. After some flipping a couple models got what I truly wanted.
If I could do it all over again this is what I would have done. Buy a Sub C (what I have today) Sell my Omega PO (sold in flipping process) save a couple bucks and then buy a Panerai. The funniest thing in all this the only money ever lost was on flipping the DJ II (bought at AD and before I knew of trusted sellers) |

I've kept all my Rolex watch purchases and still enjoy every one of them. Each person needs to know themselves and if they develop strong bonds with material things. Others enjoy flipping and changing their collection. No right answers. If you have a bond with your Explorer, finances permitting, you can add a new watch to your collection and sell one later or keep them both. Good luck with your decision. Cheers!

I have been through at least 10 Rolex's and only own one to date. For me I dont like wearing a lot of different watches. When I get a new one it gets all the wrist time for a few years and then I usually get bored of it. Ya a few I sorta miss but I had fun with them and didnt loose too much money on the flip. I consider that the price of owning it. Its all good but I dont like tying up a lot of extra money (usually) in a lot of collections. So down the road they go.

I sold it back when everyone was saying that the 3186 movement in a 16710 was just Internet-hype and that it would never cause the value of those to increase. Boy was I wrong on that. |

My very first was a Sub 16800 in 1987. It was a gift from my father. Regretfully, I sold it back in 1998 to fund a blown transmission.
I’ve had four others since then, but none will ever take the place of that 16800. |

Haven't sold my first Rolex, a Veriflat but I don't think I'd miss it so much if I sold it since it's not my daily beater. I miss the GMT IIc TT I flipped, though since I travel quite a bit for work.

Wow good discussion. I bought a 1675 GMT 30 years ago and considered selling it to fund a new TT Sub. I picked up the new Sub but I just can’t get motivated to sell my GMT now.

I regret selling my first. It had sentimental value and I was an idiot for letting it go. An expensive lesson to learn.

My First Rolex
The first Rolex I ever purchased (about 38 years ago) is a mid 1960s reference 6466 manual wind mid size Oyster Precision Date model for about $150. I still have it, even though I no longer wear it I'm glade I kept it. You can only have "one" first Rolex.

I sold my first - a white Milgauss - and recently re-aquired it. Flipping is ok, but after a while you get sick of losing money and begin to acquire versus trade. I would advise keeping it and saving for your next one.

Considered trading my first (14060M) since it sees no wear, but keeping for sentimental reasons... went through undergrad with it, and paid for with my first check from a “real job”. Now I’m glad I still have it.

I’d say keep it. I bought my first Rolex in 1987 which was a silver cushion Oyster. I got it as as I just liked the the look of it. I’ve had a lot of watches since then and even though it would not sit right in my current collection I wish I had it as it was the start of my collecting journey!

I would hate to sell my first Rolex (Exp2 white dial). I'd only sell it in an emergency situation where I needed cash fast. Hopefully I never find myself in such a situation. It would be heart breaking for me
