Yacht master vs datejust

Hi, I'm new to this forum and looking for my first rolex watch. i'm considering between the everose gold chocolate dial YM 40 and the everose gold datejust 41 also with chocolate dial. i've heard that the YM is now having the 3235 movement

There's a chocolate dial gold YM 40 and DJ 41?

*edit* Ah, you must mean two-tone. Both nice watches, but there's not much to say about about choosing that won't come down to personal taste. Keep in mind that the YMs were only announced with the new movements last month, so the ones you see at stores are likely going to be older models for awhile yet.

Thanks mate, I do like the design of the YM's bezel more than the DJ's. I called the boutique this morning and they said that i need to wait about 2 months for the new YM.

Yachtmaster! The TT chocolate dial is very stunning. It looks way nicer than the DJ IMO.

They are so different... I think of the YM as the "dress" version of the sub. (as in dress military uniforms.) So kind of dressy but still sporty; not at all formal. I like them.

As a first Rolex, DateJust for sure. Way more versatile than the YM, and overall I prefer the look of the DJ anyway - fluted bezel with Jubilee is classic. There's a reason the DJ is the best selling Rolex. I went Two tone DJ (yellow gold) for mine.

I agree. I have a YG/SS DJ & it most definitely is one of the quintessentially recognizable Rolexes. I'd recommend it for anyone's first. The YM is nice, my father has a platinum one, but I wouldn't get it as my first, however alluring the choco/RG combination might seem. To me, it is a very polarizing watch. But, it is your wrist, your money.

The blue DJ41 in combination with jubilee-bracelet and fluted bezel is very popular in this version.

DJ is a classic beauty. I'm not a fan of the YM.

New YMs have been calling to me for a bit. I'd go YM. I think they are finding a good place in the Rolex lineup now.

I like the Datejust 41 more than the Yachtmaster. The chocolate brow dial and rose gold accents on the two-tone Datejust 41 have a cool 80's vibe that the new watch modernizes nicely.

I have both the TT RG YM with Chocolate Dial and TT RG DJ41 with Chocolate but diamond dots Dial. As mentioned, they’re both very different watches but if I was asked to choose between both then I’d struggle. But the YM feels sportier but can be worn with pretty much any attire.

You can't go wrong with either. It sounds like you want the YM, but don't want to wait 2 months. If that's the case, definitely wait it out.

thanks mate, i'm a little bit to the YM side, but the YM's bezel is also what concerns me the most if the gold tone may fade through time.

Have you noticed any problem with the bezel color of the YM so far?

That bezel is solid 18kt gold and will not fade.

get the one you like best ..

i thought i needed a DJ because everyone says its versatile, it dresses up / down, etc.. but when it finally came time to pay the piper .. i realized that my heart did not care to own a dress watch .. i needed a sports watch ..

so my first rolex was a sub .. (in TT because it dresses up nice) .. get the watch you want.
