rolex GMT master ii w/ custom bezel?
was just rolex shopping online, just looking at how the market is. SS batman are still super expensive. i stumbled upon a fairly priced Rolex custom ceramic blue/black gmt master ii. i called them and verified that it is a 2016 GMT master II black and they replaced the bezel with black/blue. so my question is:
1. is it really frowned upon to purchase these kind of watches? i think Rolex definitely wouldnt like that. 2. what are the downside of have a custom bezel? will rolex ADs still fix or make changes to it in the future? FYI the gmt hand is blue and not green, so they must have replaced it. thanks in advance! |

Rolex does not work on watches that have aftermarket parts. An AD may work on it, if their watchmaker is an independent, but then it isn't really the AD doing the work.

There's a fine line between custom and fake. Most on here wouldn't have a watch with aftermarket (or fake) parts on it, and as already mentioned Rolex won't touch it either.
I wouldn't touch it. |

If all they replaced is the bezel insert, you'll still have a green GMT hand and green writing on the dial. Not only would that be obviously aftermarket, but it's not going to look good. Note also that no aftermarket bezels actually have two-color ceramic, so you'll either get a half-painted insert or one that comes in two pieces.
I think you should do whatever you want -- it's your watch (if you buy one). There are plenty of very well-respected third-party watchmakers who will work on your watch, so losing access to official Rolex repairs isn't much of a loss. Of course, you're also not getting a factory warranty. |
