AP 15450 Grey not desirable?

Dear all,

I was offered by the boutique a 15450 in grey at retail.

I was pretty surprised that I can purchase a SS sports model off the shelf.

Question is the grey face so undesirable that it's available for walk in purchase?

Thanks for sharing!

Regards
Aston

If you like it, then get it. It seems the 41mm are hard to get.

So there's a reason why 15450 are left on the shelves.... So I believe their value retention is poorer compared to the 41mm sibling

15450 is 37mm.
15400/15500 is 41mm and seems harder to get than the 15450.

Desirable or undesirable - who cares? Your buying a very expensive watch, DO YOU LIKE IT? but if the opinions of strangers on the internet help make your decision I think AP makes some of the most beautiful gray dials so TO ME it is desirable.

Buy what you like and what suits you. Who cares if someone else desires it or not.

Hmm... I sense that value retention is an important consideration.

In buying an expensive watch, person preference and a sense of the value are important.

I am looking at the watch firstly for the watch itself.

Hence just want to know more about how others feel about a so called boy size RO.

I think size is the issue not the colour which seems to have gone over well. Small APs are a bit of an outlier for this bold brand.

Never heard anyone call it a "boy size RO"... did you even try it on? 37mm RO fits like a 40mm Sub/GMT. Get whatever fits your wrist/style better, period, full stop. There are 6'4"+ guys on this forum who choose 36mm Day Date over 40mm because it fits their wrist better. It's not all about size bud. If you have a small wrist you probably shouldn't be wearing a DSSD, nor should you wear a 39-41mm RO.

Depends how it fits on your wrist. It is labeled by AP as a woman's watch.

Here we go again. No, it doesnt wear like a 40mm pre-ceramic. Not even close. It doesnt wear like exp1 39mm or daytona eather but lot smaller. The case may wear a little larger then the 37mm but the dial is so tiny it might actualy wear smaller then a DJ36. Its a weird sized watch. Sure, close-ups look fine. I can show you closeup with it on my 7+ wrist which looks perfectly fine. But from 2/3m distance it looks like a girls watch.

15450 is for guys with girls size wrists (<6.25). Anything above get a 39mm or if you have 7+ try on the 15400/500.

See pick below with my daytona and sub and focus on the dials to see how small the 15450 actualy is.

Everyone should be their own judge on this topic and try them all on. I disagree completely with above post but I am also perfectly happy with my girl/boy watch on my girl/boy wrist

Well, thats actualy what i and others are saying. The 15450 works well on girls or guys with girls sized wrists. But fine, if we are being sensitive or me being childish lets say smaller sized wrists then.

But no way it wears like a 40mm sub. Thats all i'm saying. I have 7+ wrists and i like the 40mm pre-ceramic or daytona size so i bought the 15450 thinking it would wear the same as so many were repeating saying it wears like a 40mm pre-ceramic.

The 15450 is still sitting in my safe and i had to get a 15400 afterworths. Which i can just pull with '7+ btw. So i'm Just saying to prefent others of making the same mistake of getting the 15450 thinking it will wear like a sub which is simply way off and not true.

Your pic looks fine btw. Although like i said close-ups arent realy helpfull. Take one as well in a the mirror with short sleeves to get a better sense of dimensions.

To make my point. Same watch, my same wrist: One pic looks fine, mirror pic shows how it looks in RL which is to small for an average sized wrist like mine

I agree doesn't wear like a 40mm modern sub (which wears larger due to its maxi case and square lugs). But I find it wearing very similar to my daytona, which I love. It is a lot dressier in it's smaller size than the 15400 which I also owned and later sold because was too big. The 39mm jumbo is the "perfect" size for this watch IMO but I would go 15450 before it's 41mm siblings.

Sorry, but if the 15450 would wear like a daytona i would not had the need to buy the 15400. Its still way smaller. Daytona is the perfect size for me:

Good. Thats what i'm trying to say here. Close-ups are not helpfull to get a good sense on size, especialy on a watch like the 15450. Its a weird one.

Agree to disagree. Your wrists seem more rounder and bigger than mine. Some watches look different on different shape wrists. For me, the daytona and 15450 are identical.

If you have wrists under 6.25", as Frits said, then yes, this could be the Royal Oak for you. If you have wrists larger than 6.25", and you're looking at the 15450 because it's cheaper/easier to get, then you're making a mistake.

If it can help, see a 15400 on my very flat 6.5inch wrist. Not too bad but I may be biaised

It's a matter of taste imo... I have a 7.2" wrist and I wear my 14790. A jumbo is great for the weekend. In my opinion and according to my personal taste the smaller sized 15450 is much more elegant and classy plus more comfy to me.

The RO was originally designed as a sports watch so yes the large size of 38/41mm makes it more sporty.

You have to try them both. On many wrists the 15400 or even 15202 looks out of place.

It's not my photo, I saved it from here on the forums.
