I'm going to wear my PM Sub in Paris next week.

Vacationing in Paris for a week from the States. I am not asking if this is safe to do, I am stating a fact. Will wear my 116618LB all week in Paris.

I bought it to enjoy it.

Sounds good to me. Paris is no different than any other major metropolitan city. Use common sense and you’re good to go

Just be prepared for those packs of ladies swarming you with clipboards.

If they are within a 3-foot radius, you are being pickpocketed.

Haha. Tempting but I hate traveling with multiple nice watches. I am more afraid of a piece being stolen from my hotel room while I am out than I am of it being stolen on the street from my wrist.

Don't worry about your watch. Watch your wallet. Use common sense. You'll have a great time.

Good choice. I wore my plat Daytona in Asia, including Manila. Wore my rose gold AP in Barcelona. That’s what they’re made to do.

That's a very good point and no one wants you stuffing your watches in your underwear for safekeeping. Better just leave that AP at home and take the super flashy PM piece to all of the friendly rallies they have ;)

But seriously, hotel safes. no.

You will be fine. Sounds like you are fully aware which is the most important thing. The oblivious ones are the ones who might be more of a target

Be careful, my wife and I were (almost) mugged when arriving in CDG and heading towards Paris via subway. We fought them off (no thanks to all the onlookers in the train). We are fine and nothing stolen.

Crazy, Wife and I (and baby) just got back earlier this month after a week in Paris and found it to be super safe. Tho I did hear people say CDG and area near Gare du Nord to be on alert but other than that it was great. Maybe because it was still offseason we only saw like two the clipboard ladies the whole time.

The whole time on this trip I took my Speedmaster, but, i think it fly under the radar vs any Rolex just because Omega and Speedmaster are not household names.

Me personally on a trip overseas just use common sense where you're going. When I went on Hajj I bought a G-Shock just for the trip as I need a watch I would not mind misplacing (and I did, but, a cleaner found it and gave it back). Dubai? I am taking Rolex all day. Paris/London? I took the Omega (well at the time it most expensive watch I had, i got the Rolex on this past trip in London) but I knew i was likely taking Uber everywhere and sticking to being out in the day as I was travling with a baby. .

I was fine but the pick pockets were out in force and the more overt scammers who do the wedding ring scam, paper plane scam, friendship bracelet scam and so on. Put your wallet/cards in an inside zipped pocket and don't keep taking your wallet out to use your Metro ticket.

Can you explain the wedding ring and paper plane scam? I'm really curious about it.

In essence the “lost ring” or “found ring” scam, which is based on the simple act of distraction. The scam can be targeted on anyone, but most always a traveler. The scammer walks up next to you and quickly bends down and picks up a ring on the ground (that they placed prior to walking over it). The scammer (usually a woman) then offers to give you the ring, but asks for a small amount of money, saying that the ring is worth more than a few Euros that she wanted as a kind gesture.

The paper plane scam targets families. A guy will throw a paper plane when a family with small kids walks past. One of the small kids runs over to pick it up and all of a sudden you're asked for ten Euros. Often a group of men will menace the family until some money is given up.

Both have the secondary benefit of distraction in that while all this is going on, you're probably being pick-pocketed.

Wouldnt do that if I were you. In broad daylight I've been dragged to an alley near sacre couer and relieved of a couple of hundred euros. I was wearing a plastic watch at that time otherwise that would've been part of the loot. Dont like Paris till this day.
