I found Paris to be fairly similar to any other large city in regards to general safety. The only area I'd be a bit more careful in was out near Le Bourget. Paris is a great city and cool place to visit despite it's frequent protests and nonsense.

Great. Would you wear it in the USA?

I grew up in France and definitely feel more comfortable wearing nice watches here in the US than in most places in Europe. In Paris, train stations and their surroundings can be a little sketchy. And if you look like a "rich" tourist (compared to the Parisian middle class), you're definitely a walking target and should avoid the subway too. Your overall appearance matters more than the watch you are wearing. If you wear a pair of cheap jeans and sneakers, you can wear a $100K time piece and no one will suspect it.

Ballsy move. Exactly what time/day will you be showing it off at the Eiffle Tower?

The streets of Montmartre at the foot of the Sacre Couer are fine most of the time
The nightclubs near Moulin Rouge however have the reputation of costing nothing to get in but 300 Euros to get out. You may find your self paying 300 Euros for a bottle of champagne you didn't order.

Why wouldn't you ?

You do know that the protests from the "les gilets jaunes" is still going on in the weekend ? Going on for months already.
Last week some 200 arrests and a police force of 5000.
Don't get accidentally involved in a riot.

Good that you’ve made a decision and not become too concerned. Have an awesome time, it’s a great place.

The last three times I’ve been there however, once my wife and I found ourselves surrounded with all of our suitcases heading to the airport and confronted by several large gentlemen from the African continent in Gare du Nord in broad daylight and we had to talk our way out of it, another time enroute to the Latin Quarter also in daylight we got stopped and surrounded and again had talk fast, and on our most recent trip myself and my family witnessed a fight between two very well dressed guys fighting over a leather briefcase. They were rolling around at our feet at one point so we had to move. The owner was relieved of his case and he got chased by the police. This was 8pm in the metro.
In that last trip we were in the metro enroute to Montmartre and found the station was closed so forced to surface early and walk the rest of the way - The surroundings were was super dodgy so the Rolex came off and went into my pocket - also far from ideal.

As long as you don't flash it on purpose and are smart about it! I wouldn't be purposely waving it around to draw attention to myself. I'm always a bit wary of bringing a nicer watch with me when I travel, simply because I'm more distracted taking in the sights, and possibly not paying attention to the full situation. Also, the reality is that you'll often just draw more attention as a tourist (unless you dress and speak like a local.) Plenty of locals wear their watches (I have a friend in Paris who regularly wears his gold DD and Patek 5712) but are still smart about it, by for example, making sure their sleeves are over the watch while on the Metro or in certain areas.

Enjoy your trip!

Be careful in and around the Gare du Nord station. It’s a haven for scammers and pick pockets

We were in Paris last fall and I wore my Daytona everywhere. The only time there was a potential "issue" was also at Sacre Couer. African group on the way up were giving out leather wrist strap things and tried to grab my wrist with the watch and put one on. I wasn't sure what the game was but yanked my wrist away. There also were the gypsies with the clipboards on the way down. Wasn't sure what their game was either but shooed them away. The rest of the trip in Paris and Switzerland was 100% worry-free. I guess the more touristy the area, the more likely to find pickpockets and thieves.

Pics or it didn't happen...

That's good, you should wear it wherever you want.

But do be careful. Paris is one of my favorite cities and I never miss an opportunity to visit but there is unfortunately a very real issue with pickpockets in congested train stations and tourist areas. It never causes me even the slightest hesitation to visit but I've seen and experienced way too many incidents to ignore.

I bought it to enjoy it.

Amazing city. Despite the bad publicity of protests etc I’ve enjoyed that place numerous times and it never fails to impress.

Enjoy your watch that’s what you bought it for!!

I loved Paris. Had an awesome time there and no problems whatsoever whilst I was there.

I was younger and partied ALOT whilst I was there, walked home at all hours of the night in not the best areas. Just dont draw attention to the watch like roll up your sleeves when in bad areas.

Otherwise just be street smart. Aware. Many people that I know focus purely on books smarts but I think being street smart and able to handle oneself when dealing with the not so law abiding citizens is more useful than being able to solve complex problems.

Sometimes growing up in less fortunate areas and going to high school that was renowned for being bad has provided me with pretty good skills on handling street situations.

If you look like an easy target and act like one well you've already got a big target on your back. Street guys can tell immediately who they need to target for an easy win.

Do you think the great US of A is the safest place on earth? Have you ever stepped foot outside to see the world?

Yeah, I'll bet on myself over a hotel safe all day.

Hotel safes are like gym lockers, they only keep the honest people out.

Lol, really? I have been all over.

The whole point of my post is to demonstrate that I don't believe USA is the only safe place. If I am comfortable enough to wear a PM Sub in the States, I am comfortable enough to wear it in Europe. That is my whole point.

Its a knock on people that have a false sense of security just because their surroundings are familiar.
