I have lived and worked in Paris for decades.

Paris is just like many other big cities, with the recent problem of yellow jackets on Saturdays, though.

I'd wear a SS Rolex quite anywhere, but as for PM (I have a 16618, a YG Datejust, also had a YG Day Date) I would be more prudent.

No problem in the day light, no problem in the metro when there are lot of people, but be more prudent at night would be my advise.

Totally agree. While I feel confident wearing yellow gold, I am discreet, observant, and I always move with purpose.

I am not invincible but I also do not live in fear.

I find it relaxing! They won’t come by and ask if you need anything, endlessly, like American wait staff. If you need something, stop and ask! The best dining experience you’ll ever have will be found in Paris because they will never interrupt you. Also, free refills aren’t a thing. I drink Cole Light with every meal because I freaking love it, they’ll charge you for each bottle they bring.

There are some other little differences, but if you’re polite, speak in French as much as possible, and just know they’re not there to suck up to you, you’ll have a blast.
Except when they try to scam you for a tip because you are American....

That's all you need to be like. Just take it with you and enjoy and create memories.

Be street smart, observant and don't draw attention to yourself and you will have zero issues.

He asked about Paris. He didn't ask if it was more or less risky than Detroit, London, Cleveland or Beruit. He wasn't even asking whether he should take his watch or go at all, he was just telling us what his plans were.

Nothing anyone said about Paris was untrue, just good advice that would have been the same if he asked about visiting any other large international city as a tourist.

Btw, if you need some hotel recommendations, shoot me a PM. We always stay in the 7th and I can recommend some great hotels and restaurants, and a watch shop or two.

The whole time on this trip I took my Speedmaster, but, i think it fly under the radar vs any Rolex just because Omega and Speedmaster are not household names.

Me personally on a trip overseas just use common sense where you're going. When I went on Hajj I bought a G-Shock just for the trip as I need a watch I would not mind misplacing (and I did, but, a cleaner found it and gave it back). Dubai? I am taking Rolex all day. Paris/London? I took the Omega (well at the time it most expensive watch I had, i got the Rolex on this past trip in London) but I knew i was likely taking Uber everywhere and sticking to being out in the day as I was travling with a baby. .
Not quite sure how you figure that a Speedmaster is likely to be 'under the radar'? The morons who are involved in these thefts more often than not will simply go for 'a watch' - yes, if it appears to be gold etc, that might further heighten their interest, but many of them will not know what they have actually got in terms of make until they have taken it and are on their way. If in doubt.....

Otherwise just be street smart. Aware. Many people that I know focus purely on books smarts but I think being street smart and able to handle oneself when dealing with the not so law abiding citizens is more useful than being able to solve complex problems.

Sometimes growing up in less fortunate areas and going to high school that was renowned for being bad has provided me with pretty good skills on handling street situations.

If you look like an easy target and act like one well you've already got a big target on your back. Street guys can tell immediately who they need to target for an easy win.

Paris is like any other city...use common sense and you'll be fine. At this point, worrying about a random terrorist attack in France is more of a concern than someone robbing you out of your Rolex..
