I own both DJ41 and Explorer II. Love them both, however, on this occasion I’d recommend the Explorer II. The versatility of that watch is massively underrated.

I would prefer the Explorer II, A date just is also nice, I like the DJ with a fluted bezel, you choose oyster or jubilee bracelet. Oyster makes the watch look a little sporty. Because I like the classic look, the current DJ41 fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet would be my choice.

On a one-off basis I’d say the Exp II. To go with your collection, I’d say DJ.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and advices.

With all the drought out there, I’ll try to get my AD to have a private presentation and put them all on wrist.

I too think and incline more towards the EXPLORER, given its 42mm dimension. Would’ve preffered the Polar dial but that’s not currently on stock and just as it looks right now, they won’t see anything coming in within the next month. AD said the dial could be swapped later for about $550 on exchange basis or $750 to keep the black one as well.

On the other hand, just as some of the guys pointed out, the Blue dial jubilee DJ41 would nicely compliment my lineup. Plus that I’ve been very curious and have long desired to try a jubilee bracelet, my wife loves her 36 DJ birth year.

What’s your estimation for Expl2 vs DJ41 in terms of value on the long run and from collector’s point of view, let’s say 20 years ahead? I’ve been reading a lot about Expl2 coming back strong and gaining more appreciation by the day in these times of SS scarcity.

I really hope the wrist test will tell who to give the love to.

I would wait for the polar, but that’s just me. I love the black when I see it on other folks but seems like a disproportionate amount of black area on the dial when I have it on my wrist. Weird, right? I am just so damn picky!

I too would love a Datejust but wears too small on my almost 8” wrist, IMHO.

Have you considered a Skydweller? That is as close as I will get to a Datejust. Such first world problems!

I also have 8” wrists, and have an Exp 2 polar which was my gateway watch drug to the 40+ size offerings. It wore so much better then my 40mm references that it soon lead to a SD43. I wear the SD43 all the time now and love it. Occasionally I try switching back to the Exp 2 polar but it doesn’t compare, feels thin and flat. Exp 2 Looks great don’t get me wrong, but once the SD took over that was it - and all my 40mm references don’t have a chance now. So if you love your SD43 like me, an Exp 2 or DJ41 might not cut it for you now.

Explorer II I have the Polar and it's my most worn watch. The Hulk, Daytona, and Batman tend to sit on the sidelines. Love the simple dial and the orange 24 hour hand.

Of the four I think definitely D.

It’s a special occasion and D looks the most special.

You have an SD43 already so the ’utility’ watch base is well covered. Also the explorer ii might measure 1mm less than the SD43 but it looks smaller on the wrist and <<presence.

I think that Wimbledon dial dj will hold more value but in the circumstances I don’t think resale value is going to be a concern 🙂

My only thought would be if you could squeeze (money-wise and dealer-wise) a sky dweller white face - then you’ve got the size and presence for your wrist and a very special watch for a special occasion.

But yeah D definitely off those four.

Very best wishes.

Congratulations on the coming baby boy.I would commemorate such an occasion with a Blue dial that goes perfectly well with a baby boy.
Add to that the fact you already own the father and mother of SS Rolex, the SD43, the DJ makes way more sense.

Ah, got it, this watch is for you, not your wife.

In that case choose the one YOU like most.

I greatly prefer the adventures watch over the bankers watch. Both are beautiful. If you can try them on, the choice should become obvious to you.

Exp ii and DJ blue dial have my vote. Consider what you already have in your collection and decide on those. If you already have a sporty type rolex I would choose the DJ blue dial if you dont already have a sport model then go for the explorer i.
congrats on both the new babies to come
