Too much stretch?

Hi all,

This is a Datejust 16030 from 1982. Is this too much band stretch? Would a band repair be necessary in the near future?

That doesn’t seem bad at all. Plenty of life left for that age. Once it gets worse you can send it in to michael and he can get it restored. Mine was alot worse than yours though and came back very nicely.

That does have a fair bit, bear in mind the watch head not being vertical which makes it appear better than it is. This pic represents it better.

You could get it fixed for a $200-300 (I think, unless process have gone up) by Michael Young in HK but unless its a steal of a price I would probably pass.

That bracelet has quite a bit of wear in general Jubilee bracelets show more wear over the years than say the oyster type bracelets.

Too much stretch?

If you had Superman’s x-ray vision, and saw inside that bracelet, which of the various link pins are prime to fail?

One good thing about Jubilee bracelets is their built-in barometer that shows the signs of link pins wearing down.

Yes, it is time to consider repair work.

Yes, get it fixed, it will only continue to deteriorate. No reason to send it to Hong Kong, Rolliworks in CA does just as good a bracelet repair job.

Are they priced equally though? I thought part of the reason for sending it to Michael was his prices we're unbeatable even after factoring in shipping.

I have no data for this. Just what I've read on the threads. I'm genuinely curious to these answers myself.

I've heard nothing but praise for both Rolliworks and LA Watch Works. Does LA Watch Works work on bracelet stretch as well? I have a jubilee that I'd like to remove the stretch from.

No way to really quote you the price that MY would charge, nor what Mike at RW would.

But with two emails with pics would get you the right answer from each.

Thats seems like normal wear and tear. I little isn't bad but when it gets too much you have to get it restored or if your interested in other bracelets.

Rolliworks charges from $300 to $450 for the more complicated Jubilee bracelet fixes. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable sending a valued watch to Hong Kong, and BTW, MY has been sending them to Vietnam to be repaired for 10 years. Rolliworks bought their original machinery for bracelet fixes from Vietnam from some guys who left. I happened to be in San Francisco and dropped mine off at Rolliworks before they moved and had it shipped back to me. Pretty sure Rolliworks gives you a much faster turnaround also.

Don't have any experience with LA Watchworks.

Rolliworks had gained a lot of good feedback lately here in the forums, would probably send it to them!

I echo the sentiment of keeping your watch in the USA for the work.

You only send the bracelet, not the watch.

But if those prices are correct, then yea I'd probably keep it in the USA if I were based there.

Those prices aren't bad. Does that include shipping/insurance both ways? I think last I saw MY was about $120-200 not including ship. Which is about $150 both ways.

Since we're on the topic btw... Hows the wear (stretch) on my oyster look. Time for a refurb or does it have some life left?
