I’m a woman who just switched to a 36mm DateJust after wearing the women’s 29mm Yachtmaster literally every day for 20 years.

The 36mm is, I think, proportionally too big for my wrist, especially at the folding clasp underneath the wrist. All of the extra links are out. The SA at the AD suggested that I flip the bracelet around. Their watchmaker suggested it for women, as it helps the clasp fit better on women with smaller wrists. All of the female SA had theirs done that way, so I did, and it helps. The folding clasp underneath does cause a protrusion of the bracelet (it’s on an Oyster), unlike on my Yachtmaster, which fit absolutely perfectly. I also have to wear it a bit more loosely than I would prefer, just so the clasp can lie more flush. It would, I think, fit perfectly if I had a permanent link removed, but I don’t want to do that.

My husband has 2 40mm sports watches (Sub and GMT). They look ridiculously large on me. Because they are gorgeous watches, aesthetically they look good on my wrist, but they are clearly too big, and take up my entire wrist. The bracelets are of course even bigger than the 36mm bracelet is.

My DJ is a gorgeous watch (smooth bezel/silver dial/Romans/Oyster), and it is super-legible. It does look a bit too large on me (34 mm would be perfect), but with the trend of women wearing men’s watches, it doesn’t look out of place now as it would have 20 years ago.

I went for the DJ because it was instantly available in the configuration I wanted, I wanted an older one (16200) with the all-brushed bracelet (more tool-like than my YM with its PCL), and I knew it would fit. As a practical matter, I have sons but no daughters, and I already have 2 women’s watches (I have my MIL’s teeny 26mm DJ from the 1970s, which is very hard to read and it’s basically for special occasions), and I didn’t want to get a third women’s watch.

So, my 36mm DJ fits, but not as well as my Yachtmaster, because I do have smaller wrists than the average man (I’m 5’8” so not a petite woman, either). I do like the tradeoff for the larger dial (I sure miss my sports bezel, though). If I were getting my first Rolex (which my YM was), I wouldn’t hesitate to get a 31mm or 34mm DJ if that’s what fit the best. I do enjoy my 36mm, and it definitely has wrist presence.

If you try on the 36mm DJ and like the way it fits, go for it! There are so many dial variants, styles and sizes that you can get the watch that is perfect for you! Whatever you get, it should be a delight every time you look at it.

I think that 31mm with purple dial looks pure class on the wrist. A different league to the 36mm.

I wouldn’t take photos of Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton etc as examples of elegance/style. That said, you can’t go wrong with a 36mm either.

Who said anything about elegance? Style? If that’s what is wanted, maybe someone should look at Patek or Cartier.

If you want to tell time, buy bigger dial. If you want to get noticed, go Daytona. If you want to fly under the radar, buy an Apple Watch.

Beware, I had a whole thread deleted because some can’t believe one actually asks about the watch the woman is wearing.

The watch almost looks two tone to me. Look at the difference in color between the PCL’s and the links.

31mm or 36mm

I think if your wrist is more than 6 inch circumference, get 36mm? My wrist is 5.5 inch. When I tried 36mm, it looks like I am wearing my dad's watch... What do you think? Or it looks ok?

Either size would look great, but I think that a young lady, like you, can pull off a bigger watch.

Between those two sizes go with 36. Honestly I think 34 is the perfect size for a woman regardless of size or stature. It keeps a feminine look without being too dainty.
