Fountain Pen restoration in SoCal
I picked up a gold Montblanc 146 fountain pen that is in need of a restoration. Any recommendations for someone in SoCal? Thanks in advance. Pictures to follow.

Contact John Mottishaw at nibs.com, but keep in mind there may be a long wait as he is a very sought after nibmeister. His services will not leave you disappointed or asking for more.
Sincerely, Vron M. Edit: He works out of LA, but I'm not sure if he has a store front. I have always dealt with him via phone and USPS mail. Last edited by Vron; 10 January 2015 at 03:41 AM.. The Montblanc Boutique is in the Costa Mesa Mall. Their phone number is (714) 424-5270. I do not know if their policy has changed, but, two years ago they would do an overhaul (not including the nib) for $80. I had a 144 that had the gold ring by the nib corroded (a common problem on that model) and they replaced that piece as well as the cap in a couple of weeks.

If it's a simple fix. Use Mont Blanc. More expensive but there customer service is great and they will happily help you to get it how you want. For that you obviously pay a lot extra than an independent. My mont blancs I'll always send to them to get repaired. My other pens to independent people

Here is a picture. The piston appears to be stuck as well.

Try Greg Minuksin, gregminuskin.com. He is a fountain pen expert and has very reasonable prices. He does TOP work, tell him Michael Morgan sent you.

I would not let anybody except Montblanc take care of it. Send them the picture and explanation for an estimate. If you are by Costa Mesa, I would take it in. The people there are very knowledgable
On the other hand, how deep is the discoloration? If it is not to deep, Semi-chrome and some very light rubbing with a micro-fiber cloth might take it off.

Very nice looking pen and if there is a MontBlanc Boutique near you then you can go to them for an opinion but understand they will need to send it back to a Service Center for repairs. As they are not experts(unless they are an authorized repair center on location as well)and will not make a guess as to what may be wrong or give an estimate for the needed repair(s). Preferring as is their policy and procedures to send it out for repairs. Many of the Independent Specialists, as recommended here and in other Threads, are qualified to work on your MontBlanc and you can always contact them to see if they work on MontBlancs. Or you can go to one of the Pen Forums to see if they have a List of Qualified Independents who you can contact and send your pen off to to be overhauled and returned.....
Good luck and once repaired I'm sure you will be happy and satisfied inking your pen and using it as a go to pen for years to come. I thoroughly enjoy my Fountain pens and use them daily. Just do not come back here and blame us if you get "hooked and addicted" to using Fountain pens!!! Take care.....Leo

Try the fountain pen shop in Monrovia, CA. I believe that is what they are called. The man has been in business for many years and has a brick and mortar store. Hope this helps.
