All these threads on 36 vs 41 would be unnecessary if Rolex would just make a 39. Seems like it would solve most problems. I like bigger watches but that model ( dressy) I would do a 36 on a 6.5.

36. I too have the BB58 and a 41 DJ and if I could choose the DJ again, I'd go 36. While it's also about size/fit, it's also about weight and comfort on the wrist.

I'd wear it. You do you. It's your choice.

This is from a YouTube last night someone making a comparison.

IMO go for the Datejust 41.

Exactly. I have both DJ41 and 36. The DJ41 does not wear like an actual 41mm watch, because it’s not. The “41” is in name only.

I too have a BB58 and much prefer the DJ41. The proportions just look better to me as well.

The DJ41 is somewhere around 39.2 or 39.3mm. So they already do, pretty much.
With the 21mm lug width it looks larger.

Great to know! I've avoided trying one on because I have a dressy 42 Japanese watch ( white face) that I don't wear anymore because it's too big looking on my 6.75 wrist.

One thing I don’t understand about Rolex is why dj41 even exists.
DD is 36 or 40.
Why do they have to make DJ 41? Why can’t they make it 40 or even 39.
DJ has less elements on dial than DD hence it looks more emptier than DD

I personally had/have (2) 41's and a 36 everyday wear. I was skeptical first and couldn't be happier with my everyday 36. Both sizes look great IMO.

Here is the 1987 DJ (16013).

Just for reference, here are the specifications I'm considering - TT yellow gold, fluted, jubilee, silver dial.

Totally agree on the sizes for the DJ not making much sense. Although the 41 wears smaller than advertised, as many claim, it still doesn't wear as well as a BB58, which is also a 39mm. I guess it's just one of those decisions you have to make and forget about :)

I will post a picture of the 36 on my wrist this weekend when I visit the AD and would love to hear your comparisons!

I think the 41mm looks fine on your wrist. The 36mm is the classic size but always felt a little small to me. My wrist is 6.75-in and I would not consider a 36mm.

Want it sportier….. 41mm with smooth bezel

Want it dressier….. 36mm with fluted bezel.

I have a 7 inch wrist and much prefer the fluted 36mm option on a oyster

I’m of the opinion that fluted wears larger / smooth smaller
I also feel like jubilee wears smaller and dressier / oyster larger.

But then I own both the MKII explorer and the modern 36mm explorer and I feel the smaller explorer of a much more preferable option for my wrist with a dive watch stepping up for the large watch duties.

IMO if you think it’s too large now then that feeling will never go away.

Is the difference between ref 116334 and 126334 the difference between DJ41 and DJII41?

I only ask because all these comments about the DJ41 being 39.5 MM is not the case for a DJII41 from what I’ve read. I only bring this up because I am actually shopping for a 126334.
