Vintage Rolex should they be worn every day??
I very recently entered the world of vintage Rolex
And I love it so much, not only for it's beauty but equally for its history (51 years young) that I don't wear anything else. I have had it pressured tested to 50m and bought some NATO straps as well as the genuine movie James Bond strap from Corvus. Please tell me that it's ok to wear the watch every day, come what May, or should I be placing it in the safe, just so it doesn't get damage and can still increase in value. And wear it for special occasions? And please, take the time to tell me about your daily wearer, especially those owned from new and to show them off with some photos Thank you Regards a slowly going mad Tony

Dude.. the watch is 51 years old and it's a Rolex that is supposed to go DEEP! Wear it with confidence.. I wear my vintage pieces whenever I feel like it and I know that they can take a bump is needed.. ;)

I usually say yes, but prolly not yours. I think you need to trade it to me for a SD 4K so you never have to worry.

Just get it pressure tested regularly and.... When you are at the grocery store push the cart with your other hand. I find the crazy vibrations on the tile floors screw up my watches. H

exactly
My favorite Rolex is my father's 1950's TOG that he wore daily. As long as you service/pressure test a reasonable intervals, enjoy the watch. It's different if you are trying to preserve a collector's item or museum piece.

Thank you for all positive replies
What I was also hoping to attract to this thread were stories or even links from one owner watches who have abused them and relied on them for years. MP5 LOL Paul,Jon & Philip thanks for the reassurance Larry,Joe & Kingair Great advice Chris, you have a lovely 1665, please tell me more about its history I am just a little bit nervous, as I REALLY, REALLY wish to use it for what it was designed to do. But at the sometime mindful of its age. I believe that the watch has got some history with the Royal Canadian Air Force, but not sure. Now, if I knew its history, and believed that it had been used as a tool watch, I would relax more. But for all I know it may have been locked in a safe for the past 20 years!! Silly, I know. Regards Tony

I would wear THAT every day easily.
I would personally take it off if I know I'm going swimming. Not that I don't think it can handle it but because I would feel awful if water damaged that beautiful dial. These don't grow on trees! Now if I'm caught in a situation where I can't take it off (security reasons) and want to swim, I would gladly swim with it knowing its passed the pressure test within the year. :) I just wouldn't do it purposely. |

Beautiful piece my friend. Also love your 5205. If that isn't getting much wrist time send it over here and I'll break her in for you. LOL! Welcome to the world of Vintage. I have the exact same corvus strap. You definitely have great taste in watches.

That is beautiful, Tony!
I wear my 1975-vintage 5513 every day. Take it off to shower and sleep. Goes in my locker at work while I'm on the road but 8 hours later it's back on my wrist. Been wearing it since 1987 with regular services to ensure water tightness. I wear mine on a NATO strap, just in case one of the pins decides to poop the bed or the original bracelet gives way. DO IT! WEAR IT! |

I also where mine. I wanted to preserve the dial/hands/insert so put service replacements on. Here it is with a Tudor blue insert but I have it with a black one currently.
