I’d like to get a Panerai to compliment my 5 digit Submariner. I’ve had a few Pams in the past and have sold for various reasons but I continue to be drawn to the brand.

I realize comparing these two is a bit odd but there are attributes of each I like. I have a just over 7” wrist for reference.

I can pick up either one for about the same price and as a bonus the 112 comes with a recent service and full kit. The 574 only comes with the watch and strap, no box/paperwork.

112
-Basic movement that can be serviced easily.
- Screw Lugs
- Thick case compared to the 574
- Has the Panerai look with crown guard
- 44mm case

574
- In-house movement requiring service by Panerai
- Spring bars
- Thinner case and a bit more refined looking than the 112
- Subseconds
- 42mm 1940s case

I welcome thoughts and opinions from all.

Whilst I prefer Panerais with subseconds, of the two options presented I would go with the 112, for the piece of mind of box and papers and the fact that it’s 44mm, a 7” wrist is fairly substantial and a 42mm may look too small if you are wanting the “Panerai look”

I think the 112 is my favorite Panerai, and you’ve already listed some of the reasons. I’m drawn to the older models partially due to their 6497 base movements and their serviceability, and I also just love that old classic honest robustness that goes along with those big-ass cases.
