Gmt 1675 bracelet restoration question
So I have a 1973 Rolex 1675 gmt with original bracelet that I will be looking to have restored soon as the bracelet is very stretched. L.A watchworks will be refinishing the case for me and I am wondering if I should send the bracelet to Michael Young seperate or just get L.A to restore the bracelet as well as the case? I know M.Y has a great reputation and I'm not sure if L.A will be as good but it's more convenient to send it all to one place. Any thoughts ?

They do excellent casework so they obviously have very skilled guys working there. If they say that they can restore the bracelet, I'd believe it.

What kind of bracelet folded, rivet?
Didn't know LAWW did bracelets, complete tear down? MY right now is running about 2-3 months behind but he does exceptional work. Depending on the condition of the bracelet about $225-400. Price varies but you have to take into account shipping both ways, new screws, laser welding (if needed), etc.. Basic service is about $160-180 depending on the type of bracelet, price goes up from there.. |

I do not know what was quoted as far as price for the restoration but I would think MY is cheaper than most and does an equal if not better job than anyone. Many places send it to him then charge you double.
Send it to him. |

Nope never seen their work. Im sure it is outstanding but I have had MY do one for me and when pricing the service he was well below others and his work I would venture to say is neck and neck with others providing the same service.

I'd send directly to MY. However, do NOT let him polish/refinish your bracelet. Repeat: No polishing!
I've sent several bracelets to Michael through the years, and his shop removes bracelet stretch very, very well. It's like magic. But the polishing is way too aggressive. I asked for a light touch-up on one of my Sub bracelets and they pretty much removed the crown on the clasp by over-doing it. I wish I had just used a Scotch Brite pad and left the crown alone. |
