Are Tudor Big Blocks Increasingly Undervalued?
We are all seeing what's happening with the older Zenith Daytona prices lately. To me it begs the question why aren't Tudor Big Blocks from the 80's & 90's not also experiencing inflated prices...especially for excellent Full Set examples? Perhaps a "sleeper" in the increasingly crazy world of vintage Rolex values?
I have two Tudor Big Block Full Sets (ref. 79170 ? Ref. 94210) that I enjoy wearing regularly. I now have an opportunity to pick up a perfect NOS ref. 79180 Full Set with stainless steel tachometer bezel at a very reasonable price that seems like a very solid investment...as are just about all vintage sports Rolex full sets that are in excellent condition IMHO. I'm pretty sure I will pull the trigger on the 79180 NOS Full Set but wanted to solicit other's opinions on this great Tudor Chronograph reference. |

I have a couple as well. It's very hard to predict what will be hot next. The Heuer chronos of similar size have gained a lot of steam so it's not the large cases holding them back. Only time will tell

The pre-tiger 79280 is also under valued and under appreciated IMHO

The prices on these Big Blocks have been on the rise recently. Steeply I'd say. Some others say it is the next 'Daytona'.
If you find the price reasonable, I say go for it. |

Go for it Frank. They aren't making them like that anymore.

I love mine particularly on a nato strap as I feel they wear more comfortably. They are bulky, but there's something satisfying about the weight. I think the prices have firmed up here in the UK where they are less easy to come by. You'd struggle to find one with some accessories for much less than £4k.

To address the OP's proposition, I would say the answer is no.

Personally I believe the current market price is due to low overall demand. I doubt this will change much. Estheticly they are too far from the manual Daytona and they are way too chunky to wear imho. Each to their own but I don't think they are much undervalued.
I believe the sudden hype for later automatic daytonas are simply due to the new ceramic version being sold much over retail. Once the price goes back to retail and they become more available I would be surpriced to see older automatic daytonas to be sold at current levels. Most variations will go back to a level below the retail price of the new version. |

Been wearing my 94300 for about a month now. Doesn't wear as big as the name suggests. They were probably unusually big in the 80s when ultra thin was all the rage. Compared to today's maxi cases, they're not especially oversized or chunky. Great value and historically significant; I don't see any price softening in the near future.

I think any of these Tudor 5 digit references are generally undervalued. Unless being sold by someone like Maron or some other vintage dealer.
I picked up a complete set never worn (or hardly ever worn) Tudor sub about a year ago, a 79090. And it has done nothing but go up. Just like anything Else I guess, if you buy a complete set at a good price you will always be ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A complete set Tudor 79180 is definitely a worthy piece in any collector's stable.
Prices are still very reasonable considering the doubling of vintage pieces in the last 3 years. I know becos i owned a handful of lollipops and snowflakes which i sold at almost double of what i bought. However, the game of vintage watch collecting is a painful one. Thats why its always better to buy 2 of every model. In case you sell one, you still have another to keep. Good luck fellas |

I think compared to the SMP Moon and the Tiger Chronograph they are over priced.

Personally & my opinion only. Undeservedly undervalued but still affordable , I prefer these to Daytona's . But I do like a watch with a date feature .

Talking my own book, to use a Wall St phrase, but I think the Zenith Deluca chronos are a better buy at a similar price.
Essentially the same movement as the Daytona from the same year. Symmetrical dial. Discrete date. 40mm case. Comfy bracelet. Panda and reverse panda dials. Mmmmm, Italian market. |

God only knows where the vintage market will go. Twenty years ago you couldn't shift a PN, and bubbleback prices were sky-high. Now it's the complete opposite.
Big Blocks might well appreciate significantly in the future as top examples become rarer. |

I had a Big Block. I liked the watch a lot, but at the end of the day, it was just too thick and top heavy for me. I sold it for about what I bought it for.
