2009 Patek 5711 Blue dial

I have been offered a Blue dial 5711 that was manufactured in 2009. The original papers do not come with the watch, however it comes with an archive.

There are no service records either.

Take a chance, or pass. Asking 40k

Thanks

i wouldn't buy any watch at this level without a full set. Extract to me is not going to cut it. There are lots of these available and you will pay more, but i would.

the premium is bigger than that based on 2009 retail prices so the seller is making out quite well... if someone buys it

2009 5711

Thanks for the input. Just made a deal to return the watch from where I got it, and a 5712 will be arriving tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

5711 Blue dial

I got it two weeks ago from EWC. I find them to be a great place to buy watches and they incredibly good to customers.

Hopefully they negotiate because their asking prices are somewhere between and gtfo.

Haha no need to be embarrassed and phrase your original post as a ‘would you buy this’. Glad you were able to return it and upgrade to the 5712. Hope you got a better deal on that than you did on the 5711.

2009 Patek 5711 Blue dial

I personally don’t see why you shouldn’t get the watch if the condition is good.

I think 40k is a very fair price, compared to what the other sellers in TRF is asking for. If a full set is fetching about 50k, a set with Extraction papers should fetch less but not 20% less.

It’s just a paper lol. As Long as you can authenticate and prove that the watch is not stolen then I say buy it

I share the same view....

Besides you are not going to find one with original papers for less than 48k at current prices.

it raises a lot of questions for me. First and foremost is someone who didn't care enough to keep the papers are probably pretty careless in general and they are the one who has been wearing the watch you want to buy. Generally i find people who keep every piece of their watch and all the accessories and keep them in good condition are also pretty careful with their watches. So i would use that information to make conclusions on how mistreated or how careless the previous owner wore the watch. It makes sense to me.

If the timepiece is more than a decade old, there is a possibility that the papers might lost along the way.

if you are careful, its impossible. That is what i am getting at. You are buying a watch from a person who isnt careful. The papers belong in a safe or at the bank, not somewhere where they can get lost. It says a lot about the mentality of the owner in a general sense.

I Guess every case is different Tyler:)

Just sharing, my dad is a watch collector. He bought a 5980 in 2008, used it a couple of times and left it in the safety box ever since (the box and papers was lost somewhere in our house). During my wedding day, he gave me several watches to choose from and One of the watches available was the 5980. I didn’t end up choosing the 5980 which I kinda regretted. (Ended up buying my own this year and it cost a bomb)

This is my personal experience:)

you are having to make judgement call about an unknown buyer based on incomplete information. So yeah, could there be a legitimate reason like your house burning down or a hurricane or something, sure. Those freak occurrences get lumped in with people who are just careless or have some motive for not having the papers (like the watch was stolen). So to me its easier to just pass and move on rather than try to find out why there are no papers.

Objectively its a red flag. Just saying that spending this kind of money for me makes any red flag unacceptable. Some people are ok with the risk if they get a better deal.

I don't agree with this sentiment at all. im a pack rat and try to keep all the boxes and outer sleeves to my wife's annoyance, but somehow I've misplaced a box or two to who knows where. doesn't mean I abuse my watches. just too many damned boxes to track.
