I have always been curious what the AD actually pays. I figured they would have paid 50% of retail, but knowing Rolex business practices this number wouldn’t shock me

At least we’ve got confirmation that the anti christ himself is a TRF member and interestingly has chosen the Easter weekend to pay us a visit.
The only surprise is to find that contrary to many members’ belief, the anti christ does not appear to be an authorised Rolex dealer

You'll be waiting for a long long time if your waiting for 30-40% off. LOL
I disagree. I started in 1990, and PM watches were 30% off for all of that decade at my local ADs. And I would say first half of the 2000's.
At that time, I could get discounts on all SS watches except the Daytona and Explorer I as well.
There were waiting lists for those 2 watches at that time.

Another visual, to show you how much the times have changed, the AD would have an engraved placard on the showcase stating what the discounts were for SS, TT and PM.

I don't think anybody wants this kind of big discount to happen, because it means the depression around the world. I would rather pay the full price and the stock market sky rock as before this lockdown.

Hahaha well I was 5 years old in 1990 so well before my time.

In the time since I have been around Rolex I've never seen or heard of 30-40% off a modern DD40 or a DD41.

Buy one gray and save thousands plus tax if you can find the right gray. The one I got worked out to David sw or timepiece gentlemen one of those guys can find you one. David sw has in stock and timepiece gentlemen can find you one as well. I have bought from both.
I saved 25 percent for mine it was a 11/19 watch full set ! Got mine from timepiece gentleman

This is 2020, not 1990. Surely you can't compare then and now. Nobody is getting 30% discount on any Rolex reference especially a gold or platinum Day Date. These are luxury timepieces, not Timexes from your local Walmart.
BTW, what was discount on a new Ferrari off the showroom floor in 1990?

got 25% off an Everrose Daytona black dial around 4 years ago before the watch market took off

AD offered 20% off within 5 minutes. Talked down to 25% off.

Disagree, I know firsthand I could get 30% off a DD 4-5 years ago and 25% off even as recent as a couple years ago. Stop stating things as fact based on your opinion and not firsthand experience. I know you own PM so don’t want to see it, but it most definitely did happen.

If you can get it go for it. I've NEVER seen it myself and all I buy is PM now so I keep very close eyes on those pieces because I want to add another SkyD with the Rhodium dial to my collection. Also I've been through 3 x DD40s now and also a few other PM pieces.

You aint getting 30-40% off and I've dropped a shitload of money. Not from an AD.

From a gray dealer yes you can get 30% off MSRP.

P.S If you know a AD right now that will give me 30-40% off today for a full RG SkyD with Rhodium dial please PM me. I will do a deal with them.

You’re comparing a DD and SkyD, completely different. And plenty of ADs would offer this, especially 4-5 years ago, I could waltz into random ADs and get 20% off by just asking to see the piece, not even trying. It’s wonky right now with everything happening, but I bet we get back there within a year. People aren’t going to throw down 30k on timepieces as frequently.

It may not be your experience but PLENTY of posters on this very forum can backup what I’m saying. Look at PM discount threads from 2015, 25% is common. The trick is not going to a mainstream AD in NYC, LA, etc. Smaller ADs absolutely loved to move PM stock as they have to take it from Rolex and they were super hard to move with their normal clientele.

PS I’m not calling you a liar, I’m just simply saying your experience isn’t the end all with how you’re stating ‘this never happened’. If anything your experience was the opposite of normality a few years back. If you could only get 10-15% off PM from an AD in 2015-2016 you should have found another AD, ESPECIALLY if you had any type of buying history. Heck in 2015 you could get 10% off a Sub with buying history.

Is this thread talking about 20-25% or 30-40%? I'm confused.

Of course. But since that's ridiculous I figured I'd throw that out there.

I’m saying 20-25 was easy, even without trying, to reiterate my point that 30-35 was most certainly doable. I see you want to try and use silly logic to not acknowledge the fact that you’re wrong about what you could buy.

.
I remember this time period very well and it did happen. I remember guys calling out of town ADs and getting discounts on PM watches during that time period. It was standard and not out of the ordinary. Also remember a funny thread where guys were competing against each other to see who would get the lowest price for a PM. I remember the lowest PM was around 33.3% off. Funny times...

It’s not the best time or reason to get a cheaper PM model. Sucks really...

4-5 years ago was then. Not now. And what Day-Date? A 36 or 40? The 36mm is likely a much slower seller, so discount was higher. The OP has stated he will get a 30-40% discount. He will not. Sorry. End of story.

You realize I was responding to another person who said 30% off PM has NEVER happened in the Rolex world? Perhaps reread and you’ll see the truth in my response instead of trying to be argumentative over something you’ve made a mistake over. End of story?

This whole thread has become a big train wreck. Even the OP has bowed out. I am also done here.

Lol yes, ‘bow out’ instead of simply acknowledge your mistake. Wise
