Is the GMT 6542 caseback a replica?
Evening
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this casebook is real or a replica? I know that the bubble back case is common, but was this style ever used? Thanks SS |

That would be a YES. The entire year is never stamped only the last 2 numbers. In this case it should read 1.58
There are other issues with the fonts on the number but, the incorrect year is the dead giveaway |

Thanks Charlie. Thought this might be the case (so to speak!).
Cheers |

I have seen this before on a 6542. I just found a link too. Now I can't say if both are fake or genuine but it's possible either way. Of course they are usually just the latter two digits, as in, 58. Still new things that confuse us pop up every day.

digits in the back-inside are very odd and also back shape is quite unusual ( looks to have a " 5508 " style ).
my advice : just run away ! PS : " 1958 " is usually punched with 4 digits so this is not a problem for the present back. |

I find the "E" letter inside the case strange, isn't it usually short E's?
