Seadweller old v new
I have an old 1665 which I love but am lately thinking of swapping for a newer 16600.The main reason being I'd like to be able to use my watch in the ocean which I can't do for obvious reasons with the 1665.
What do you guys think? Is a 1665 too rare to let go?Would I regret it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I think that once you got the 16600 on your wrist you wouldn't miss that old 1665
for about 2-3 days and then you would develop pangs of nausea accompanied by that feeling that you can't equalize and you will have to hover at one depth trying to figure out what you did wrong. But don't worry, that will only last for a while. like 35 years and then it will start to go away but it could eventually be your ROSEBUD |

What do you use it for ? Deep dives ?
If not, I trust that with a decent service, seals etc, you can use it in normal uses. This is what I do with my 5513.

I had a full service a year ago,new gaskets, seals and crystal etc.It passed the waterproof test, but the guy said he wouldn't recommend risking it in the water just in case. |

If you're getting the 16600, get it as a supplement not a replacement

Agree, you'd miss it. The 16600 is a fine timepiece, but a nice 1665 is worth hanging onto.

Seadweller old v new
Deep down I know it's a keeper, just wondered if members thought the same.It really is a beautiful piece in the flesh, photos don't do it any justice in my opinion.
As an aside,I rang rolex enquiring about a new bracelet. The lady said I could buy one for roughly$1200 US,but I had to give them the original, thought that was a liberty on their behalf. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Defo keep the 1665
I'm the opposite - been looking about going the other way as I've someone who's desperate to get their hands on my 16600. Maybe a nice 1665 or matte 16660. My problem is I don't like selling anything |

Keep the 1665. So much "cooler" than a "regular" 16600.
If you have it pressure tested and it passes, I'd use it as a Rolex is intended to be used. Just had my 5513 pressure tested after a crystal swap. The watch is from -66, or -67 based on the serial. It passed, the watchmaker told me the same, keep it out of water just to be safe. I won't follow his advice though.

Totally agree - I would hold out until you can cover both. - there are plenty of good 16600s around and at fairly good prices if you take time and hunt about. The 16600 is my daily beater and is a truly great allround watch, but it does look and wear differently from a 1665. I take your point about the risk with the 1665. I have had my vintage sports done at RSC, and often they have still commented that even after service, the the risk remains greater with these than say a later sports like my 16600. Why chance it when you don't have to! Good luck!

If i ever find a decent priced and original 1665 i will newer sell it. With the risks of plexiglass cracking i would not dare to dive or swim a 1665.
I read about users whom had plexi cracks over night. |

I had a plexi on a 5513 crack overnight so I would not swim in a 1665 regardless of when it was serviced, I have a 1665 and a 16600 and there is no way I would get rid of the 1665!

definitely don't get rid of the 1665, if anything just pick up a newer SD or Sub for diving for 5k from a trusted source here

Just buy a 16600, keep the 1665
If you want a new bracelet and keep the old one it's SIMPLE, put int on a strap , walk into the the RSC , tell them you "recently" acquired the watch and really want to replace the "missing" bracelet ... Walk out with new bracelet and somewhat poorer Exactly how I got the new one that's on my 1665, and when they tried to sell it with 580 ends was able to have them go back and dig up some 585s , this was at Dallas RSC, the cost was 1250 + tax In fact considering the apparent good condition of your lume on dial and hands RSC might be willing to service without changing any parts except to replace the crystal and they'll then guarantee waterproof to the rated depth, tho servicing that movement is about another 1k but then you'll have a vintage diver you can dive with
