Would you trade a RG YM2 for a WG Daytona w/ black leather strap?
I'm considering trading my '14 RG TT Yacht-Master 2 for a '02 WG Meteorite Daytona on a black leather strap w/ the WG deployment buckle. this particular daytona combo has been a grail for me for quite some time, I love the meteorite dial. I got the YM2 from a grey dealer in Boston for 17.5k earlier this year and the same place is now listing the daytona at 16.5k. I figure with 6 months of wear and accompanying minor scratches that it's worth an even trade. While I love the YM2, I feel like it's a little too big for my wrist. from lug to lug the watch is 1-2mm larger than my wrist.
Would you make the trade too? And does anyone have any idea what a wg daytona bracelet would cost to acquire?

Especially given the size issue (overhang), I'd do it for sure.

Ok. All sorts of things wrong here.
First off, IMHO, a grail is the just about unattainable. This watch is not that for you, you just like it a lot. If you paid 17.5, he's not giving you close to that. Not gonna be an even trade. You will likely out in a few K. Lastly, the bracelet won't fit on the model with a leather strap. I think thats about it. Both great watches.

Would the WG bracelet fit on the strap model? If you ultimately want the bracelet, I don't think I'd trade for a strap model. Trade plus cash if necessary for the bracelet model and change dials if necessary.

The WG Meteorite Daytona is one of my favorite watches, but the value of the YM II is greater, so i'd do the trade plus a few $k

I would keep saving for your ultimate watch, the Meteorite on bracelet.

If it were me, I would try to get a clearer picture of what the numbers would be before I put much more thought into the trade.
But, even more central is the question of which watch you like better. I'm not much of a strap guy so I wouldn't do the trade. |

I believe the complication on the RG is greater than the Daytona plus it is on an RG bracelet; doesn't seem like a good trade unless you just don't like the RG YMII and really want the Daytona. Now if it were the new YM RG then likely yes.

I have the WG Daytona w/ meteorite on strap and I can tell you a few things:
1. $16,500 is too much for that model year. 2. If you do it, get one with the fat hands (2005 I think) because that's the one thing other than engraved bezel that has really changed since then and it's an easy spot. 3. If you want the bracelet model at all, I would recommend waiting for that. I have posted a number of times about wanting to trade my strap piece for a bracelet piece but I'd take too much of a bath on it, plus I already have a SS Daytona which is indiscernible from WG at three feet and a WG DD. It adds some variety to my collection so I keep it around. But if I were starting over with no SS Daytona, I would have gone directly to the WG bracelet model. Hope that helps. |

the Yacht-Master 2 is two tone, rg and steel. it's not solid rg. retails for a little over 25 but can typically be had for upper teens. the wg meteorite daytona on black croc strap w/ deployment buckle originally retails for 31.5 but others are selling that '02 watch for mid/upper teens. the value is comparable. all things being equal i'd rather have the daytona, but I wanted to get some other opinions.

My first WG Daytona was this exact watch, and personally I would not do it unless it was on bracelet.
You are given up a substantial amount of wrist presence for a combination that flys under the radar without the bracelet. I would try it on before even entertaining the idea as you may be underwhelmed. |
