Bought a BNIB Daytona from AD and serial is not random need advice

Hi All,
Am new to the forum and needed some advice. I just bought a brand new in box Rolex Daytona TT 18K Black dial from a local reputed AD and saw that the serial number is not random but G with 6 digits. My understanding was that most new watches from Rolex now come in Random serials. Are G serials still in production?
My concern would be resale in future when most watches dated in 2015 would be random and I would have a G serial.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

No worries. The G ran in parallel to the random series. And, sometimes the TT or full gold models sit a little longer at the dealer...no big deal there.

I thought random serials are one letter with seven digits or two letters with six digits.
So G with seven digits is random serial. The real G serial is G with 6 digits.
Do I make a mistake ?

You are right sorry, I made a mistake so mine is a 7 digit total with G as starting alphabet so not random.

You can still find G serials at most AD's...on TT and precious metal models. They don't move as fast as SS models thus the G serials haven't fully transitioned to the random.

Yes, especially with the slower moving models. I've even read on this forum of members buying BNIB pieces with serials before G.

Anyway, congrats on your watch...I'm a huge fan of the TT. I just think the dial choices you get with that model are so nice. Enjoy!

2tone daytona is a slow seller. It is likely that they had it for few years.
What matters that you bought it brand new and it has full 5 yr warranty.
Resale value would not be in an issue.

The year of a watch is only loosely based on serial but is more accurately the date it was sold

Great, thats good to hear. Yes they do have a wide choices of dial, I was debating between Panda (Ivory with Black) and Black dial finally settled for the black.

What was interesting was that a friend of mince bought similar from another AD a year back and it has random and I bought it just a week ago and was a G serial.

Thanks, kept on debating between Panda and Black Dial and ended up getting Black Dial. Still sometimes wonder should have gone Panda ;) .

No... Random is exactly that, random. It may start with a letter or a number and have a mix of both; yes they are all 8 digits - but they could be any combination.

yes for he rest.

I'll go against the grain here....if I bought a new watch I would absolutely want the random serial. I do think it will affect resale in the future but will likely only be a few hundred dollars. Look at it this way, if a buyer is deciding between two watches of similar age, price and condition I feel they would want the random serial 100% of the time.

Well it could go the other way in a few years time there will be millions of random serial watches around compared to the last of the single letter G serials. Now the single letter G serials started a little later after the random serials started to appear at the various ADs later part of 2010 to present time.
