Date wheel Question on 1675 root beer -

I am looking at a root beer 1675 (solid brown bezel) with 27xxxx serial number series from 1969. Would the date wheel be open or closed 6, 9s. In looking at images it seems I am finding it both ways. Appreciate any help from the experts.

That's it, same as the stainless models.

So when did the transition to open 6's and 9's begin?

Open 6 and 9 was both earlier and later than the hooked 7 period.

My MKI 1675 is circa 1967, with closed 6/9 and hooked 7 - I thought the slightly later ones were open, as per my MKIV RED 1680 (circa 1970).

And my 1961 gilt dial has open 6 and 9.

1969 case back red sub date wheel pictured below. Based on my experience, the GMT date wheels changed in the early 1970s. I don't know when, or the exact year. But the late 1960s GMTs and 1680 Subs had different date wheels. That's based on my experience, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

If you think they were different, wear what you like because it really doesn't make any significant difference. There are many more variables and factors than determine the value of vintage watches than date wheels.

Thanks, Springer. That's roughly the timeline that I was expecting.
