Thoughts on my deal?

Hey guys. I bought my first Rolex a few weeks back. I think I got a decent buy. It's a 1965 model 1500.
Looks minty clean, people are shocked it is that old. Crystal has been replaced and recently serviced. I took it to a watch shop and had them open the back case and verify the movement/serial numbers and everything checks out.

Here's the auction as well as a few pics. Let me know! I'm so pumped to actually have one of these!

Classic vintage Date! Price is pretty good, especially if it was recently serviced. Looks to be in decent shape, although the hands might have been replaced. Tritium on them looks lighter than the hour dots. But maybe not. Hard to tell from the photos. Are the tops of the lugs polished? They should be brushed. Might just be sleeve wear or the lighting. Either way, no biggie. Congrats!

I believe a 1.7 mil. serial is closer to 1967-68. Would be a nice bonus if your rivet bracelet has a date stamp on the clasp in that range.

Thanks for or the kind words!

This is my first foray into this whole Rolex thing so I am very happy with my purchase. The watch looks to be in excellent condition. Not really sure what the difference between polished and brushes would be... but they look good. I plan on keeping this baby, not re selling or whatever. The fact that this watch has 20 ears on me in age is mindblowing!

I took a few more pics.

I was having trouble with dating the bracelet so maybe you can help me, not sure if it's original or not...

the numbers are in the picture but maybe hard to see exactly.... they are 1/72 and 60 on the ends.

Nice watch- I'm a big fan of the classic dates. I have a 15000 which is similar but with an updated movement.

Updated movement eh? So it "ticks" smoother? How much does something like that run you? For the movement and for installation? Just curious!

Thanks guys, so much love here, it's great!
How do you think I did on pricing? $1750... recently serviced, new crystal, came with a Rolex box (not sure if original box or not). I must admit the idea of buying a used vintage watch off eBay was a bit daunting but hey, im a gambler by nature. The overall condition is great. People are shocked when I tell them this thing is 50 years old.

That means the bracelet is a little later than the watch, Jan. 1972. But that doesn't really matter, unless you're a real stickler. It probably got changed at some point. I see those cool old rivet bracelets alone sell for $1K plus, so you did well.

Google some other 1500s and look at the lugs. You'll see what I mean about brushed vs. polished. Good luck.

1k plus eh? For the one I have?? I might slap that on eBay then... I have just ordered a bunch of exotic skin straps to wear with it, I prefer that look anyways.

$1K plus for a 7206 maybe. I think the 1500 uses a 7205 which can be had for around $400. 19mm, not 20mm. The only 7205s that bring $1K plus are the 1959 year which have the large Rolex logo on the clasp blades. I just picked up two 7205s. One from 1962 and the other from 63 with 57 end links and minimal stretch for $395 each.

After looking at some other 1500s I can see that my lugs are polished, and I'm fine with that. Looks quite sharp and since I plan on keeping the watch anyways it's all about personal preference.

Thank you for much btw for your time and information.
I was looking at some vintage bands on eBay similar to mine and they seem to have a 4 digit number on the second or third last link close to the lugs. Mine does not. Doesn't bother me too much as I also saw some that didn't have the numbers as well.

Once I get my leather straps I think I will be putting this band on eBay. Any chance you could help me with the auction? Just to make sure I am including all the necessary information that you seem to know a whole lot more than I do. I would rate the condition as good. I would say 7-10 out of 10 on a condition scale. There is no stretching whatsoever and the watch seller added a link to the band as well so that never hurts when selling .

What do the end link numbers mean? You said yours have 57 end links, mine says 60.

1700 is an amazing deal my brother! A lot of micro brands nowadays charges close to 1k for some homage pieces. 1700 for a real deal is a deal! Enjoy it

Not sure what you're asking. The 15000 has the 3035 quickset movement, the 1500 has the 1575 movement. They're not the same size and not interchangeable to my knowledge. Mine is an earlier 15000 with acrylic crystal- so they are identical in appearance.

I would not suggest parting out the watch and then attempting to franken-build it with a different movement!

Well loved 15000s can be had for around the same price as you paid, nicer ones will be still under $2500 USD.
