It is too big to fail as if there had been a wall clock named as for 40th anniversary.

So how will the 5167R be affected with the release of the 5168G?

It seems everyone is giving the 5168G a thumbs up, which likely means the 5167R will be sitting around stores unsold.

Weren't they sitting around the store unsold anyways

But seriously, I think the R buyers want that R look vs G buyers who appreciate the looks and don't need to show it's 'gold'.

Plus brown vs blue.

Think each will be just fine.

G has my vote all day.

Haha, very true that the 5167R was sitting around the store unsold anyway

I think if they get these new blue aquanauts to AD's quickly they will sell quickly but if they take too long and Patek trickles them out and makes them hard to find people will forget about them as soon as the next flavor of the month comes out.
I think it would look nice on a white rubber strap at the beach on a sunny day!

I wouldn't count on them doing anything 'quickly'.

But I agree a white strap would look great for the summer

reminds me of the sad tiny little movement in the 5196 with all the circular graining around it to fill the excess unused real estate..

Agree 100%.

Nonetheless pretty sure the 5168 will sell well.

I wonder if we can expect a move to 42mm in steel Aquanaut, perhaps at Basel 2018?

While many don't like the 42 mm size, my 6'4" 220 pound frame says bring on more 42mm watches. Love that Patek is not stopping on the 42mm size and I absolutely love this piece. Looks spectacular! This one is a winner for me.

Have to agree. Really wait and see how at sits on the wrist. Many balk at APs big 44mm sizing but once you put it on it's not that bad. I'm a slim 6'4 with about a 6.5 wrist (maybe smaller) and I'm able to wear any 44mm AP without it looking excessively bulky. The aqua is significantly slimmer and the way the profile is I believe it will sit a bit more flush on the wrist without the lug hangover. Just my .02 here

I was just thinking Arnaud will be gutted. We all know how much he likes blue, and he recently bought a 5167r.

Sadly 5167R was squatting right next to the 5160 1A at most AD's before Basrlworld. I am glad PP is bringing out larger watches even though it may not always suit me...they do try and have a watch for everyone...

Yes Paul, 5168 not limited

Edit: sorry, thought this was a new question, just noticed it was on page 1.

With the blue dial Aquanaut being released, I was thinking Arnaud would be happy that he can now purchase the watch he really wanted. Hopefully he will share his experience after seeing the blue dial Aquanaut in person at Basel.

Overall, can we conclude that PP is releasing new models based on the slow moving current models ie

5167r > 5168g
5170r/g > 5170p
5960 while > 5960 black
5396 > 5396r blue

Anyway this should be a typical thing for any industry to increase sales but this can give us a better picture to expect what next year based on keep observing Patek displays.

Or it may be blue dials are popular and they are releasing watches in blue to meet the customer demand. Interestingly all four of the new releases noted above have blue dials (5168G, 5170P, 5960-01G and 5396R).
