Thanks David. Please stay away from the WTB section of this forum.

A den of thieves. I'll never post there again. Maybe should be eliminated?

I concur. If someone really wants to buy something, it is pretty easy to ask a few of the top sellers if they can get one.

i agree with getting rid of the WTB section.

a simple PM to good sellers indicating what is being sought is good enough.

Maybe keep the WTB section for smaller ticket items, ie parts and such?

A double edged sword here...

Thank you David, for alerting the membership on the specifics of the fraudulence using your (altered) details.

The WTB section has been discussed by admin many times, as has the classified section as a whole.
The biggest problem stems from those unaware of the tactics used by online scum. With that, members who are unaware (or not), post their private details for contact, and open themselves up to outside communication without any real avenue of solid referencing (apart from the fake feedbacks etc provided).
The bottom line here is, if you are wanting to deal online, arm yourself with all the knowledge possible. With that I mean knowing how to sniff a scam. How to spot fake feedback, how to spot fake emails, how to spot fake/copied pictures etc etc.....
If you can't protect yourself in that manner, then you certainly should not be posting your private email and phone number on a www site for all to see....

We (TRF) can't protect everyone, we can only ask that you do your homework. The internet is not a safe place for high value purchace, never has been!
Know what you are doing first, and risk only what you are willing to lose. If that means nothing, do not use online avenues.

I'm not saying everyone is a scammer, I'm saying many are! Remember that....
Deal directly with those who are known to be proven, or expect to take a risk if you don't.

Perhaps we should remove the classifieds all together? Thoughts....?

The classifieds is a great section as whole. I have made many great purchases from it. One thing that has come to big me is the tons of classified adds by the same one or 2 strap makers that dominate the parts/ novelties section. I am to the point that if I see their user ID I just pass it over and never look at anything they offer. It's sad because they will duplicate a post every few days rather than a simple bump so it really takes over and the authentic straps, parts, swag, etc get lost in the mix.

Sorry for the hijack there. Thank you David for the heads up! I always like to see what you have to offer so I will be careful to make sure it is your official email before I even open it.

John, I believe you can block those users and that should clear up that problem for you. That definitely is annoying....

I will have too look into that! It's sad really as they seem to offer a decent product but it's like they are trying to shove it down your throat.

Yep. I got a PM from user timeoutpz using this tactic after I posted on the WTB forum. Is there any way to report these users so admins can remove them?

In the upper right corner of the PM you'll see the red and white triangle icon. Click on it and report the PM as phishing or a scam.

Interesting read and tough position. The classifieds certainly provide a service that is helpful but could be a trap. I was thinking a few different options about this.

1) highly reviewed sellers get invited, get a clear badge and pay about 10k per year for it. If no issues happen in the year they get 9k refunded out of an escrow. Supersellers listings get displayed in a seperate verified section or above the other sellers.

2) rules of transactions are implemented for any sale on trf of non "supersellers" outlined in 1. Basically no wiring money, no international purchases, no international payments, must use a trf specified escrow that is posted for all on the post and not via pm. Trf gets some money from escrow house as an affiliate and all transactions from non supersellers must use an escrow.

3) wtb is only allowed to be seen by supersellers (outlined in point 1)
