London for 3 Days

Gents need some input. Taking the Mrs away for our 1 year anniversary.

We are going to be spending 3 days in London Sunday April 2 - Wednesday April 5. It's both of our first time to London.

Any recommendations on must see's / do's ?

Any recommendations on great places to eat? Being in NY we have all
the usual steak houses and great restaurants in NYC. So something different
and more of a local stop is usually our kind of place.

We are leaving London Wednesday and taking the train to Paris for a week.

As always any input is greatly appreciated.

Just come back from 4 incredible days in NYC! London has a similar vibe. I love Sexy Fish (restaurant) in Berkeley Sq. very cool pan-Asian food. Spend time in the area before hand walking down Bond St, and the various arcades. Enjoy

agreed that place is good. For an "off the beaten path" recommendation I would suggest just south of the river in wandsworth. Chez Bruce . Its out of the tourist area so only locals go, its is michelin starred, and because its south of the river its cheaper than most of the bad and touristy restaurants in the city center.

tower of london along with the british museum are also a must.

Awesome. Looked this place up - only negative is the distance from where we are staying in Marylebone - like a 40 minute drive.

Things to do:

Louvre
Eiffel Tower
Sacre Couer - Go for sunset
Versaille Castle (40 minutes away on train, incredible)
Champs Elysees
Notre Dame
Musee d'Orsay
How to be a Parisian in one hour - Show - Runs Thurs - Sun
Moulin Rouge - Book early

Places to eat:

Miss Ko
Victorias
Kong
Vins Des Pyrenees - Great steak
Bouillon Chartier - Very "french"
Ciel De Paris - Incredible view - Highest building in Paris that isn't the Eiffel Tower - So you get an insane view - Book now though if you can
Lockwood for eggs benedict at breakfast
Breakfast in America near St Paul - If you miss US pancakes
Eggs & Co (Breakfast)
Le Cinq

Then I can't stress the importance of getting a bottle or two of wine, grabbing a picnic basket and just sitting by the tower, seine etc on a nice evening. The weather here has been 65-70 the last week or so.

Definitely, try and hire a velib (public bicycles) - Excellent way to see the city

Feel free to PM when you are here - Happy to help with anything else!

P.s Dubail watch shop at Vendome (flagship) or on the Champs Elysees is awesome

Thanks for the info. Booked the Ciel de Paris - can't beat the view. Yes, one of our favorite things to do in Paris is nothing with a bottle of wine and good views.

Take the "Big Red Bus" TOUR, 24 hour ticket, get off and on as many times as you like. Good speaker pointing out all the interesting things. Well worth it for a first timer.

If you want fish & chips go to the Golden Hind in Marylebone Lane off of Marylebone High St. Old school and good quality.

The oft berated steak and kidney pie can really be enjoyed at The Guinea Grill on Bruton Place off Berkeley Square. They win awards for Best of Britain annually. The pub downstairs is a classic.

In London, the national portrait gallery, Fortnum and Mason, get a Barbour jacket just because. Love the browns hotel. Lots of shopping and eating right there. Also they do a great afternoon tea...

I'd recommend puttin' on the Ritz, at the grandest dining room in the UK. Dinner preferably but certainly a must for Afternoon Tea. Very friendly service. Pics below in a thread of mine. Also Rules is a great idea, was featured in Downton Abbey too.

Harrods and the surrounding area is fun, especially if you are a car guy - plenty of exotic vehicles around, just casually parked on the street. Harrods best treated as a look/see attraction rather than a serious shopping venue. For a WIS, the Watch Room in Harrods is a must.
A walk along the King's Road in Chelsea is also a must imho, especially on a sunny day. Stop at Manicomio (Duke of York Square) for Italian lunch, although gets crazy busy so booking advised. Wherever you eat, be prepared for high prices and the 'included service charge' (supposedly optional)!

The Wolseley Restaurant, Picaddilly is a must!
Situated next to the Ritz Hotel and close to the Burlington Arcade for Rolex and other fine watches. Burlington House, The Royal Academy of Arts is worth a visit.
The Wolseley serve an excellent menu, served all day, at reasonable prices i.e. A snack; chicken soup with half a salt beef sandwich; about £12.50.
They serve also my favourite Pol Roger champagne. It makes my day!
A delightful afternoon champagne tea at the Ritz Hotel is also a must. The girls will love it!
Enjoy your stay in London!

Ah yes Cocktails (Martini) at Dukes is amazing. You really do feel like Fleming / James Bond sitting in there

Jim.......

Make sure you go first class on the train from London to Paris.......it's not much more money than coach, and well worth it. I fondly remember ripping along the countryside at 300 km/h sipping champers in the bar car while flirting with the hostess. Good times.

In London, not only will you walk a lot, but they also have those "hop on hop off" buses like NYC/Las Vegas has.......it's well worth it. I can't offer restaurant recco's as I spent my lunch time there in the back street pubs. Guinness is apparently a food group you know.

In Paris try http://www.cafedelapaix.fr/en/ it's one of my favorite places, and although I rarely go outside of St. Germain when I am there, I always find time to make my way over for lunch or dinner. Took my in-laws from Brasil to Paris for their 50th wedding anniversary 2 years ago and stopped there one morning for a coffee, juice, and pastry, after visiting the opera house, and my mother in-law wanted to pay, so we let her.........heh.........150 Euros later, it took her 3 days to stop complaining about it. Revenge can be sweet.
