I like it... Would take some time for me to love it though. It's a look that would grow on me.

Max, Is the size of the dial the same on the new EXP II? I assume not but figured I would ask if you knew. I don't care as much about the orange lettering but if I could get a Maxi Dial in the 16570 I have like yours with a orange hand swap, might be the perfect watch for me.

Man, nice results....I'm now thinking of doing it on my polar 16570.
Gotta talk to my watchmaker.

Nope, I'm quite sure the 216570 has a larger dial. I too would love a 40mm version of the 216570.
I love the looks of the watch, but 42 is too big for my wrist.

Here we go!...just got it done.

...is anyone interested in a minute, hour and seconds hand for a polar 216570?

Thanks. I even sourced a 3085 silver date disk since I love those open 6's 9's, but I opted not to do it because the silver window would have been a bit weird.

Love the look of the mod. I like the older explorer 2 16570. The case is just perfect at 40mm diameter.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the compliments.
of course my watchmaker did have to clip the very tip off to make it fit in the smaller dial than it was made for, but it's hardly noticeable and no orange paint was needed. He didn't tell me about how he actually "clipped it"...trade secret I guess.
The only thing that bugs me is that he wasn't able to align the hour hand any better...it always seems to be about 8 minutes behind the minute and 24 hands. He and the owner told me its to the inherant "wiggle" of the 3185 movement. I guess I'm splitting hairs here...anyway, I love the idea of the GMT and the Exp II have distinctly different 24 hands.

it was a great move

Ill go further to say that this is one of the rare occasions where it would never decrease its price on the second hand market. I firmly believe it will, in fact, increase !

Nice of you to say, I certainly still have the original stock red "GMT" hand...

Why Rolex didn't do this in the first place baffles me. Perhaps they blamed the orange for poor sales of the 1655? I'd buy one of these modded 16570s and I wouldn't expect to pay any less if the original red hand came with it - As this is exactly what I'd want. Looks absolutely stunning. The perfect modern Explorer II.

I guess I can NEVER send this one to Rolex USA for service (dah!)...that would be a huge mistake.

For goodness sake, just buy a 1655 and have done with it, they aren't that expensive in the overall scheme of things and you can never be accused of being a bodger.

The chances are that you could sell it for a profit in a few years so it's a freebie experience.

Needless to say that I just bought a set of hands from a 216570 just after that and the orange hand is going to finish on my incoming 16570
How it should have been in the first place imo. Rolex probably blamed the 70s orange hand for poor sales of the original when they decided to drop it. *Sorry I thought this was a new thread on the subject.

Any Explorer 16550 or 16570 modified with orange GMT hand?

I wrote on this thread last year that the orange hand on a 16570 would grow on me... well, I was wrong. The 216570 orange hand on a 16570 throws it off, unless the wearer uses it as the primary hour hand.
