I like to visit ADs when I travel to check out inventory and engage in conversation to check out the knowledge base of the SAs. Some SAs are WIS themselves and it is fun to talk to them. They enjoy the conversation even though you don't purchase a watch and are more than willing to share some tidbits of info with you. Then there are SAs who don't really know their products and are not there for chit-chat.

But it's a fun experience especially when I start asking if they have any platinum Rolex watches. Usually their eyes get really big and they are interested in engaging in a more serious conversation with you or they just say no and leave you alone.

Good call, Hamilton is great. Let me try on a $100K Cartier too. Nice folks.

Yes but usually because I've been within walking distance of one.

The only time I made a point of going out of my way was to see an AD in Jamaica to the Tudor watches in the flesh. Shame that they didn't have anything nice at the time.

By all means I do. Whenever I have a chance.

I tend to not visit stores with small staffs unless I'm planning to buy something. I've had some bad experiences and feel uncomfortable putting a sales person through their paces for no real reason.

I definitely like to visit the authorized dealers in new locations. I can't always say the same for my wife.

Usually at the airport (always flying internationally) and when I have time as I'm usually in Seattle, NYC, or London. With the exception of London, they're geographically small cities and it's pretty convenient. In my experience, AD's in Switzerland are snooty, unhelpful, unresponsive. Therefore, it's easier for me to wait until I travel and have time than deal with someone in Switzerland who either treats me as unwelcome or as a sales object without any concept of building rapport. There is an older lady at the Butchered at Zurich airport and she's lovely, helpful, and definitely not conforming to the view I've developed of Swiss AD's based on my interactions.

My wife insists on my AD fix...

that's so she can go to the stores she likes on her own. She hates to see me look like I am waiting around for her so she does her thing and I do mine

In fact, sometimes we travel so I can visit some AD's and she can visit some of her stores
