Fathers watch...happy disappointment

I have been reading here a lot about people finding watches from their old man or some uncle, and I decided to go on the search myself, I remembered my father wearing a Rolex many many years ago. So with the expectation of having a watch from the late 50's early 60's, why not?, maybe I was going to find "THE" 6538A with original red insert, or how about a nice 5512 Gilt pristine and unpolished, or a killer 1675 Gilt with mirror dial and pointed crown guards, I started dreaming on a 6542 with original Bakelite bezel...or why not get lucky and hit the jackpot with a 6541 with honeycomb dial and red arrow...please god make this happen! or at least a normal 6239....common my dad had to have vision!

Well this is what I found after looking with him in many drawers!!!! A 1960's Datejust Turn-o-graph...not exactly a major discovery...but its my fathers watch so I think it deserves a good up up-haul, at least on this one I am 100% sure of the provenance!!! Will wear it proudly.

Here is the "discovery"...

P.S. The sad story is that my dad told me that his father gave him the money for a steel watch and he saved some months to buy the steel/gold Rolex...couldnt he have sticked with a steel model...maybe I would gotten one of the above!!

great story. a bit of ploywatch and a nice leather strap will bring it back to life if it's running.

Now that I am a little bit (just a little bit) in the "know", I even asked him if he had polished it!!! hahaha...he says no, but those chambers look a little bit round to me...won't know until i have it in the flesh...who knows maybe its a Datejust Turn-o-graph but "unpolished"...talk about true vintage...

These are great watches. Cherish the watch as a link to your father and buy yourself whatever you want.

Great watch and your fathers makes it's even more special. Search eBay for JB Champion watch bracelets. They show up from time to time NOS and would be the perfect match at a reasonable cost. JB Champion supplied the made in USA Rolex bracelets

It's the story that makes the watch. Congratulations.

I think that the bracelet is likely trashed..

However, those do look great on straps and on SS Jubilee bracelets..

Thanks! before this watch all of mine were also boring, no history, just internet and dollars! I will wear this one with a nice brown/vintage leather strap for the retro look! will post when "project" finished, probably won't show to my father or he may want it back!!!!

P.S. Still calling the cheap uncle to find the "cheap" steel 1960's Rolex....

Nothing can beat an heirloom. Wear it with honor and pride. What a great find, nothing to be disappointed about at all. Love it.

Yes of course Brushpup will wear with pride! Most special watch in my collection because of the memories! That's why the title was "happy disappointment!!....meaning why didn't my dad go the cheap route and buy a steel watch!!! But thanks for the comment to all! Just sharing a personal "vintage" story!

Yes CrownMe he lives in Mexico, I travel with three watches in a roll case, don't want to get stopped with four watches in US customs, stretching the term "personal use".

It's a great watch, in pretty decent condition. Nothing to be ashamed of in any way.
