So what is the concesus on a Gay Freres Bracelet!
Good day friends.
I am considering a 7206 rivet bracelet. The clasp is stamped GF, no rolex hallmark. Date stamped 1/67. Are these clasps/bracelets considered to be a little harder to come by thus more desirable or in reality insignificant in terms of vintage Rolex? I wouldn't be paying a premium, on par with a regular 7206 of the same period. Always good to be a little different! Appreciate your opinions. Sorry have mispelt consensus in the title. The Gay Freres bracelets do fetch a premium ...
Some fellas - including me - like the Gay Freres bracelets and would be prepared to pay a premium.
Certainly more rare than standard 7206 bracelets and knowledgeable sellers push for a premium . Might be desirable for someone who has a watch from that era that was originally sold in France. Same as a really fussy collector might favour a WAB bracelet for a watch that has English sales docs. That said, the Gay Freres bracelets are really just a quirky variation on a standard Rolex bracelet. The early Gay Freres Rolex bracelets fetch quite big prices - popular with the bubble back brigade. |

Thank you Paul and Marcello.
I've decided to purchase based on your advise. Intention is to fit it onto my '67 5513. |

Looks AOK to me ....
Quote:
The stamping was a manual process, done in stages so some have bold imprints, others less so. If it helps, here's a file pic of a Gay Frere bracelet - from a Kontiki watch but a similar era to the OP's bracelet. A good basis for comparison - the characteristics all look OK to me. I don't recall hearing about fake Gay Freres items either but never say never I guess. |

Yes, seems to be an area not targeted by the copy cats- I hope the one I've purchased when it arrives is the genuine article. Appreciate your comments Paul from across the ditch. |
