lugs too thin?

this seems a great looking 5513, and a good price considering the papers, but definitely suffering from depleted lug syndrome - a deal breaker ?

Lugs look fine to me but it's the price that makes me say "whoa!". I do feel for you guys over in England. Insert is a replacement but otherwise looks like a very nice watch.

Lugs are definitely too thin... Look at the springbar sticking out of the 1o'clock lug.

I don't see any issues with the width of the lugs. The chamfers were cut fairly full which makes the lugs appear thinner than they are. What I did notice is the chamfers might have been cut too close to the spring bar holes but it is hard to tell for sure based on the photos.

This is what I'm seeing. Plus in one pic there is a flat spot on the top of the bottom right lug that looks like someone fell asleep at the wheel.

Wrong springbars can do that.

Case too polished for my taste. Soft crown-guards, too. And at close to $11K USD price is nuts.

Perhaps also for my personal education, does that dial really look original 70-ies? I find it very light and the photos appear to show also that the hands have an even lighter colour. So I would hazard a guess that this is a service dial & hands?

It's difficult to find a watch not polished, especially with the older "vintage" ones. Problem is, most seem to enjoy their watch looking "brand new". I enjoy mine looking "used".

However, I wouldn't say the watch in question has lugs too thin. But, another 10 years or so, and a few more polishes it's a ruined case.

A truly skilled polisher knows better than to wear a case down... the problem is that many (jewelry) polishers try and pass as watch polishers and attempt to get dings and nicks out of cases and bracelets simply by grinding down the entire area... this is how you get lugs that are thin and disproportionate, crowns that are missing, and bracelets that are light and worn down.

I also see this with a lot of fluted bezels on vintage watches. In an effort to get nicks and dings out of the bezel many polishers where down the ridges on a fluted bezel to the point where they are nubs!

I am always excited when I see a vintage watch with plenty of meat left on the case!!

The seller needs to polish down the price a little.

100% agree! My jeweler schooled me on all the spring bar options. Steps and no steps. I've seen what otherwise perfect lugs with pins sticking straight out. Although not correct, there are plenty of watches out there sporting wrong spring bars.

thanks for all the responses, regarding the price, I don't recall seeing subs like this one with papers much, or any, cheaper, but i've only been looking for a month or two. Where can i source something similar at a much better price - and i'm a frequent visitor to most of the usual dealers' websites.
